And on Wednesday (June 3), the day after news of Bryson&#039;s death at 75, she paid tribute to the man she called her &quot;official duet partner&quot; in a memoir published in <em>Billboard<\/em> :<\/p>\n<p> <em>It is with profound sorrow and sadness that I announce the loss of one of my dearest and closest friends, who passed away yesterday, Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Peabo Bryson was like a brother to me. We shared a special musical and spiritual bond, forged through our love of music, family, and community. I first met Peabo as students at Rutgers University in New Jersey over 30 years ago, before I signed with Columbia Records.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <strong>More news from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p> Peabo Bryson, the man with the velvety voice he used to sing duets for Disney and many others, has died at the age of 75.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p> Celine Dion &#039;heartbroken&#039; by the death of her Beauty and the Beast co-star Peabo Bryson: &#039;He was so wonderful.&#039;.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p> Peabo Bryson&#039;s biggest hits: &quot;A Whole New World,&quot; &quot;Show &amp; Tell,&quot; and more.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <em>A few days after his stroke on Sunday, May 31st, I went to the hospital to spend time with him and his family. During this quiet time with Peabo, I held his hand and whispered &quot;A Whole New World&quot; and &quot;Total Praise&quot;\u2014our version of the song Peabo and I recorded.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>The hardest thing at this moment is the realization that I will never again be able to sing with the man who helped me create this magic. Peabo was so much more than just a legendary artist; he was my friend, my loyal collaborator, a man whose talent, kindness, and generosity left an indelible mark on my life and career.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>From the moment I first heard his music as a young girl, I was captivated by the beauty, warmth, and power of his voice. Years later, I have had the extraordinary privilege of not only sharing the same stage and recording studio with him, but also of developing a friendship based on mutual respect, trust, and genuine affection.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>Peabo had an incredible gift for creating a comfortable atmosphere around him. Whether performing in front of thousands of people or collaborating on music in the studio, he always made every moment special. He welcomed me into his world, shared his wisdom, and trusted me with a piece of himself hidden behind the scenes. These moments are gifts I will cherish for the rest of my life.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>I considered Peabo my official duet partner. His virtuosity as a world-class vocalist was unrivaled. As musicians, we shared similar musical tastes. I was fortunate to collaborate with him on four projects.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>Winning both a Grammy and an Oscar remains one of the greatest honors of my career, and it also cemented our musical partnership. But awards are only part of the story. What I cherish most are the memories, the laughter, the conversations, and the privilege of creating timeless music with one of the greatest vocalists of all time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>Although my heart is broken by this loss, I find solace in the fact that the music we created together will live on forever. These songs, these performances, and these memories will never be taken away. They are forever woven into our shared legacy. Even after I am gone, a part of me will live on in the music we created together, just as a part of Peabo will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched with his extraordinary talent.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <em>Rest in peace, my friend. Thank you for the music, the memories, and the magic.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> Before Bryson and Belle&#039;s duet in the film <em>\u00abAladdin\u00bb<\/em> He and Celine Dion won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for Disney&#039;s Academy Award-winning song &quot;Beauty and the Beast.&quot; In addition to the Oscar, Bryson and Belle&#039;s song &quot;A Whole New World&quot; topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned the duo the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.<\/p>\n<p> Bryson and Belle first joined forces in 1987 to record &quot;Without You,&quot; the love theme from the comedy film <em>\u00ab&quot;Leonard, Part 6&quot;.<\/em> They subsequently recorded four more songs.
