But, actually, it once was.<\/p>\n<p> The esteemed actresses who played the charmingly quirky friends Cindy Campbell (Faris) and Brenda Meeks (Hall) have been the main characters in all the films of the franchise. <em>\u00abScary Movie,<\/em> except one: <em>\u00abScary Movie 5\u00bb<\/em> 2013. It&#039;s been 13 years since the release of this sequel, which saw the departure of nearly all of the original franchise&#039;s main cast and crew, along with the addition of new faces like Ashley Tisdale and Lindsay Lohan. And it&#039;s been 25 years since its co-stars, co-writers, and creators Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans last worked on the film.<\/p>\n<p> Now the entire parody franchise returns in the long-awaited sixth installment, simply titled <em>\u00abScary Movie\u00bb<\/em> . A strange case with <em>\u00abScary Movie 5\u00bb<\/em> arose during conversations with Faris and Hall for the cover <em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em> , dedicated to <em>\u00abScary Movie<\/em> \u00bb&quot;, ahead of the film&#039;s premiere on June 5. The actresses gave different reasons for their decision not to star in <em>\u00abScary Movie\u00bb<\/em> 2010s, but they agreed on one thing: they will never take off &quot;\u00ab <em>&quot;Scary Movie&quot;\u00bb<\/em> without each other. <\/p>\n<p> Regina Hall and Anna Faris in Scary Movie 3 (2003). But they&#039;re the most unlikely friends. It&#039;s hard to know in what real universe they could be friends,&quot; Hall laughs.<\/p>\n<p> Over the past 26 years, Cindy and Brenda have been through hell together. They&#039;ve survived a serial killer, a haunted house, a cursed videotape, an alien invasion, and many other unspeakable horrors to come. <em>in the film &quot;Scary Movie&quot;\u00ab<\/em> . But the truth is, they have\u2026 a special connection. A connection that often leads Brenda to abandon Cindy when the going gets tough.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;Brenda is the worst friend, again, in every movie,&quot; says Hall. &quot;She&#039;ll do anything to avoid helping Cindy.&quot; But at the same time, &quot;Cindy sees love in her. That&#039;s the thing. And she sees so much in Cindy. I love that people enjoy their interactions, and I think they have a great dynamic because they&#039;re such complete opposites. Cindy is so kind and sweet, and Brenda... she&#039;s not so kind and sweet,&quot; says Hall, chuckling wryly.<\/p>\n<p> According to the film&#039;s star <em>\u00abOne battle after another\u00bb<\/em> , the connection between Cindy and Brenda extends beyond the set, as well as the unspoken agreement that exists between her and Faris.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;It&#039;s always been very important to us that if there&#039;s someone else around, we can do it. That was the case with &quot;\u00ab <em>&quot;Scary Movie&quot;\u00bb<\/em> . &quot;Then we both couldn&#039;t do it. I thought, &#039;If we both can&#039;t do it, then it&#039;ll be wrong for one not to play the other. They&#039;re like the Laverne and Shirley of their time.&#039;&quot;.<\/p>\n<p> Hall agrees they could also be seen as &quot;Thelma and Louise,&quot; but it might not have ended so well for Cindy.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;Look, Cindy would have been alone in the car,&quot; she says. &quot;I think at the last minute, Brenda might have jumped out and said, &#039;I&#039;m leaving!&#039;&quot;\u00bb<\/p>\n<p> Faris recalls that the staff at Dimension Films, the company behind the film series since its inception in 2000 and formerly a division of Bob and Harvey Weinstein&#039;s Miramax Films, &quot;didn&#039;t ask me to be in <em>\u00abScary Movie 5\u00bb<\/em> . &quot;I&#039;d like to think it was about money, but I&#039;m not sure.&quot; It also wouldn&#039;t have mattered if she hadn&#039;t known how her co-star felt, because &quot;without Regina, she wouldn&#039;t have done it.&quot;.<\/p>\n<p> Star of the film &quot;\u00ab <em>The Rabbit&#039;s House\u00bb<\/em> speaks highly of Hall, with whom she has had a fruitful collaboration for nearly three decades.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;I always felt like I was watching her with admiration when I was acting opposite her. She&#039;s inventive. And an inventive actor, in my opinion, is a brilliant actor. Colbert\/TWC<\/p>\n<p> Original <em>the film &quot;Scary Movie&quot;\u00ab<\/em> \u0438 <em>\u00abScary Movie 2\u00bb<\/em> were directed by Keene Ivory Wayans from a screenplay written by a team led by his brothers, Marlon and Shawn. The films were released back-to-back in 2000 and 2001, but much changed in the two years it took to introduce them to the world. <em>\u00abScary Movie 3\u00bb<\/em> .<\/p>\n<p> Basically, as Marlon told EW, the Wayans&#039; franchise was &quot;taken away&quot; after a series of contentious contractual disputes over pay that reached an impasse. <em>\u00abScary Movie 3\u00bb<\/em> \u0438 <em>\u00abScary Movie 4\u00bb<\/em> came out without the Wayans, but with Faris and Hall, as well as David Zucker ( <em>\u00ab&quot;Airplane!<\/em> \u00bb 1980) as director and, at the head of the writing team, Craig Mazin, who later achieved success in television with <em>Chernobyl TV series\u00ab<\/em> \u0438 <em>\u00abThe Last of Us\u00bb<\/em> . <em>In Scary Movie 5\u00ab<\/em> Most of this was abandoned, leaving only Zucker and screenwriter Pat Proft on the writing staff, and stars were brought in to fill the new roles. <em>\u00abScary Movie 3<\/em> \u00bb&quot; Simon Rex and Charlie Sheen.<\/p>\n<p> <em>Scary Movie 5\u00ab<\/em> It still turned a profit, grossing $78.4 million on a $20 million budget, but its performance was significantly lower than all previous films, and critical reviews were generally negative.<\/p>\n<p> Hall remained largely silent about the film over the years, but in 2019, Faris shared her thoughts in an interview with the program <em>Watch What Happens Live<\/em> &quot;Honestly, here&#039;s what I think: I don&#039;t know, I always joke that I&#039;m too old.
