Emphasizing that he did not vote for Trump, Gere claimed he bears some responsibility for the president's return to power. "I didn't do enough to skillfully convince those around me, close and distant, that electing this man president of the United States was insane," he said. <\/h2>\n
The actor then made a stark historical comparison, recalling a recent visit to the former Nazi concentration camp Dachau in Germany. There, he said, he viewed exhibits documenting "the transformation of German society and the German government" in the 1930s and "how quickly it happened.". <\/h2>\n
