Read with caution and watch the series after purchasing<\/strong> Apple TV subscription<\/strong> .<\/strong><\/p>\n I always thought James Marsden's Owen Ash looked like a cockroach in season two of\u00ab Your friends and neighbors"\u00bb<\/em> , and this was confirmed in the final episodes, because he absolutely refused to die. In the series, Coop, played by Jon Hamm, and his accomplices killed Ash not once, but twice. This caused quite a stir, so of course, I asked the show's creator why he wanted the character to die more than once.<\/p>\n So, the 9th episode of the series "\u00ab Your friends and neighbors"\u00bb<\/em> The film ends with a massive brawl involving Cooper, Ash, Barney, and Nick. Marsden's character ends up running down the hallway, engulfed in flames, shooting at the other guys. After he trips and falls, hitting his head hard, he is pronounced "dead.".<\/p>\n Then, about 15 minutes into the final episode, which aired in 2026, we learn that Ash isn't dead. He wakes up while the boys are driving somewhere to dispose of his body. A frantic fight ensues in a moving car, ending with the car driving into a lake. That's when Ash dies, trapped in the water while the others swim away. So why the fake death first, and then the real one? Here's what series creator Jonathan Tropper told me:<\/p>\n Just for fun. First of all, I'm confused by the idea that these guys are completely clueless about this\u2014if I were in a similar situation, I probably wouldn't know how to take a pulse, right? And I wouldn't know that "a guy who took ketamine and did stuff like that might appear dead to me," but might not actually be.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n I love it when characters are real, hardened criminals, and this show has plenty of them. In particular, while Coop is good at stealing, he repeatedly gets into trouble, getting caught up in other illegal or compromising crimes. So he acts very differently from the crook in a great heist movie.<\/p>\n No, in this case, he and his friends completely failed to realize that Ash wasn't dead. This led to a second fight, in which he died. Explaining the "irony" of it all, Tropper said:<\/p>\n And the idea of, "Okay, he's dead, let's deal with it," and then the realization of, "Oh, we might have announced his death too soon," and the irony that he ends up dead anyway. I think there's a certain absurdity and humor to it that just adds to the energy of what's happening.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n It's these unexpected plot twists that make the series \u00abYour friends and neighbors\u00bb<\/em> It's a great show on Apple TV, and I can't wait to see what happens next. The thing is, while Ash is truly dead this time, he doesn't seem to be completely gone. In the season finale, we see a man fishing in the lake where the car sank, and I can't help but wonder if he'll catch a corpse.<\/p>\n So, will Ash continue to haunt Cooper and company from beyond the grave? After two deaths and several unexpected plot twists, I definitely think it's possible.
