The film "Behind the Scenes"\u00ab<\/em> is set to become A24's highest-grossing film of all time, taking over the title from Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet's hit "\u00ab Marty Supreme"\u00bb<\/em> .<\/p>\n

In February, Josh Safdie's tennis drama took the top spot on A24's list of all-time highest-grossing global releases, grossing over $190 million worldwide. Previously, the studio's biggest global box office success was Alex Garland's dystopian thriller\u00ab Civil war<\/em> \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Now, a new 4chan-inspired horror film directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons is set to take the top spot. According to Deadline<\/em> , it is expected that \u00ab"Backrooms"<\/em> , which opened in the United States on May 29, will gross $25.7 million in its second weekend, reaching $134.8 million at the domestic box office.<\/p>\n

The film has grossed $50.3 million internationally, putting its worldwide haul on track to exceed $185 million by Sunday.<\/p>\n

The expected success came after the film "Backrooms"\u00ab<\/em> posted the highest opening weekend in A24 history, earning between $85 million and $90 million. <\/p>\n

The inspiration for the film came from an internet meme that originated on the imageboard 4chan, depicting a creepy, windowless room. Director Kane Parsons, a sci-fi fan as a teenager, made homemade videos set in the "Backstage" setting before A24 approached him to direct the film adaptation.<\/p>\n

Parsons told The Independent<\/em> , that he was "very apprehensive" about choosing a studio before agreeing to work with A24, adding: "I think a lot of why I can now say that everything has gone so smoothly and positively, and why I've been able to retain a tremendous amount of creative control and influence, is because of the specific people I've worked with.". <\/p>\n
