Read with caution and watch the film after completing the<\/strong> Netflix subscription<\/strong> .<\/strong><\/p>\n Yes, \u00abOffice Romance\u00bb<\/em> \u2014 is a true romantic comedy. The chemistry between Brett Goldstein and Jennifer Lopez is simply superb. However, I would argue that this film, written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly, actually delves even deeper into the comedic element. Seriously, his film, which will be released on Netflix in 2026, has three absurd plot lines that are incredibly funny, and I can't deny that they are what made this film unforgettable for me.<\/p>\n When I say "absurd," I mean this film had a multitude of plot twists that went far beyond anything I could have imagined, and they were both incredibly creative and delightfully insane. Ultimately, they helped keep me on the edge of my seat as the central romance unfolded between J.Lo's Jackie and Goldstein's Daniel, and they're what made me appreciate this film so much. <\/p>\n Photo: Ana Carballosa\/Netflix<\/p>\n As noted in reviews of the film "Office Romance"\u00ab<\/em> , Betty Gilpin's performance as Sydney, Jackie's second-in-command, is undeniably funny. In fact, I think she steals the show. From the start, she suspects Jackie and Daniel of ill intentions, and the actress from the TV series "GLOW"\u00ab<\/em> She played it with such excessive passion that I laughed out loud many times.<\/p>\n Moreover, Sydney was in the final months of pregnancy when all this happened. However, this didn't stop her from going into labor right there in the office, and she literally refused to give birth until she beat a confession out of Daniel and Jackie.<\/p>\n Overall, Betty Gilpin delivers a vibrant, uncompromising, and genuinely funny performance that highlights Sidney's incredible story and is the film's crowning achievement. <\/p>\n Source: Netflix<\/p>\n Early in the film, Bradley Whitford's Peter Vance had me laughing when he choked on his tomorrow's burrito and rode his scooter wildly through the office. But what really made his story funny was what was revealed later: after leaving the airline, he started working at a food truck. And it's important to note that he literally just works there; he doesn't own it; he now "lives in the service industry." He lovingly prepares tomorrow's burritos and has "found his true calling.".<\/p>\n I was so happy for him, and I loved how his story came full circle just when Jackie needed his advice. It was a funny and surprisingly touching way to wrap up his storyline, and it helped move the central romantic arc forward. <\/p>\n Source: Netflix<\/p>\n Basically, the whole reason Daniel goes to the US is to help his sister, Lizzie (Jodie Whittaker), after she "cut off a guy's head with a machete" and was arrested. When I saw the trailer for the film \u00abOffice Romance\u00bb<\/em> and when I wondered why an American airline had a British lawyer on staff, I didn't think the answer to my question would be "because his sister was in prison for killing a man overseas.".<\/p>\n I'm so glad it turned out that way, though. It was such a surprising twist for the film, and I loved Whittaker's portrayal of Lizzie\u2014so brash, yet so charming.<\/p>\n I also loved how it all fit into the overall romance, considering Daniel hiding Lizzie from Jackie led to their breakup (more likely because Daniel was hiding something than because Lizzie was a criminal). So, this additional storyline in the 2026 project not only complemented our main romance but also provided a shocking backstory about our protagonist and his criminal sister.<\/p>\n Absurd is perhaps the best word that comes to my mind to describe the various storylines in in the film "Office Romance"\u00ab<\/em> , and the film is so much better because of them.
