Interesting!&quot;\u00ab<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;They weren&#039;t the healthiest couple. That&#039;s not to say they weren&#039;t madly in love, but they had some difficulties, and that&#039;s why people liked them,&quot; she said.<\/p>\n<p> In the series, which ran for seven seasons, Washington played Olivia Pope, a problem-solver, opposite Goldwyn, who played President Fitzgerald &quot;Fitz&quot; Grant. Olivia worked on Fitz&#039;s campaign staff, and when we first meet her, she has already left her post as White House communications director. (Of course, her connection to the US president played a role!)<\/p>\n<p> Despite their ups and downs, the actors believe Olivia and Fitz are still together. &quot;I feel like there was a very real connection at the core of our relationship, and that&#039;s why we could never let go of that\u2014as opposed to a situation where the relationship ultimately became dysfunctional. I think ultimately, these two people were their answer to each other,&quot; Goldwyn suggested.<\/p>\n<p> Washington said she believed they were in family therapy.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;Yes, regularly!&quot; Goldwyn agreed. &quot;Because they know it&#039;s necessary for survival. But I think Fitz spent some time in Vermont. He needed to break free from his addictions\u2026 But I think he was very supportive of her along the way\u2014whether she became President of the United States or whatever, I feel like his true desire was to help this woman become\u2026 the best version of herself.&quot;.<\/p>\n<p> Olivia and Fitz&#039;s on-again, off-again relationship was one of the show&#039;s highlights, especially given the actors&#039; excellent chemistry. <\/p>\n<p> Tony Goldwyn and Kerry Washington in &quot;Scandal.&quot; Photo: Richard Cartwright\/Disney General Entertainment.
