Beloved bald eagle Jackie from California's Big Bear Valley is facing health problems after being allegedly attacked by two other eagles.<\/p>\n
According to a post Monday on Facebook by the Ojai Raptor Center, a wildlife rescue center that cares for Jackie, new blood tests showed worsening anemia, indicating her condition has improved after more than two weeks of treatment.<\/p>\n
The center said its veterinary team is conducting further tests to better understand Jackie's condition and determine the best treatment.<\/p>\n

Hatching around 2012, Jackie became the first chick successfully raised in a registered nest in the Big Bear Valley region. She gained worldwide fame thanks to the 24-hour webcam "Friends of the Big Bear Valley Eagle's Nest," which followed her life with her longtime partner, Shadow, and their journey raising their chicks, attracting millions of fans over the years.<\/p>\n Jackie, believed to be about 14 years old, was attacked by two other eagles (Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation).<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Jackie was rescued July 17 near Big Bear Lake after apparently getting into a fight with two young eagles over fish that left her grounded and unable to fly.<\/p>\n Initial blood tests revealed that Jackie was suffering from severe anemia and kidney inflammation. Veterinarians began supportive treatment based on available information and recommendations from wildlife experts around the world to determine the cause of her illness.<\/p>\n On July 20, Jackie received a life-saving blood transfusion from another eagle, oxygen therapy, and continued to receive care as veterinarians monitored her condition daily with blood tests.<\/p>\n She was also treated for possible rodenticide poisoning, although medical staff say they do not believe poisoning is the primary cause of her illness. The center reported that tests ruled out other possible causes, including lead poisoning, cancer, and metal injuries.<\/p>\n Jackie rose to fame in the early to mid-2010s thanks to her webcam appearances at an eagle's nest in Big Bear Valley (Ojai Birds of Prey Center).<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Despite her serious condition, Jackie is showing signs of recovery. "She eats well with adult help and even gets her own food. She still stands and sits on her perch.".<\/p>\n Last week, the Ojai Center for Birds of Prey said that despite a "complex" medical case, Jackie's condition had improved somewhat, but warned that she faces a long road to recovery and remains a "very sick patient.".<\/p>\n As Jackie's recovery continues to draw attention, the Ojai Raptor Rehabilitation Center urged the public and media to be cautious about misinformation and AI-generated deepfakes regarding her condition.
