My choice fell on the 2019 Kia Optima in the top-of-the-line Prestige trim. It was a conscious move toward a premium Korean car. Now, with tens of thousands of kilometers of intercity highways, airport meetings, and city meetings behind me, I'm ready to share a detailed, balanced review. This isn't a glowing eulogy, but a sober analysis of the car's strengths and weaknesses from the perspective of someone for whom a car is both part of their image and a tool for work.

The first impression the Optima leaves, even after years, is one of impeccable, solid, yet dynamic presence. Peter Schreyer's design has truly stood the test of time. The straight lines, sweeping profile, and signature "tiger nose" grille make the car look more expensive than it actually is. The quality of the paint and bodywork is exceptionally high. After four years and a few minor parking accidents, the bodywork remains unmarked, no parts have come loose, and nothing has rusted. This is important when you're giving a business partner a ride and don't want them to doubt your credibility.

The interior exudes an atmosphere I'd call "sensible luxury." My trim level features dark brown leather upholstery, wood trim (actually high-quality wood-look plastic), and soft-touch plastics on all contact surfaces. The build is impeccable: no creaks or squeaks. The rear seat is limo-like in size. Two adults can comfortably fit, though a third would be a bit cramped due to the massive undercarriage. But for my needs, which typically involve just one or two passengers, it's perfect. They have their own air conditioning vents, heated seats, window shades, and a 220V power outlet for their laptop. This kind of equipment often pleasantly surprises those who first step into my Optima.

Engine, ride quality and road handling

My car is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection and 245 hp, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This is the top-of-the-line powertrain, and the choice was no accident. For business trips, acceleration isn't as important as confidence when overtaking trucks on the highway, a smooth ride, and a quiet cabin. And here, the Optima excels. The engine is extremely quiet, even at high revs. The turbo is practically unnoticeable, and the power delivery is smooth and powerful. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes about 7.5 seconds, which is more than sufficient.

The automatic transmission is a classic torque converter. It doesn't shift with the lightning speed of a robot, but its operation is perfectly smooth, without jerks or jolts. Combined with the soft, but not overly bouncy, suspension, this creates a feeling of a carpet-like glide over the road. Even on a bumpy road, the cabin remains a quiet oasis, allowing passengers to work or relax in peace. Fuel consumption, of course, isn't economical: 12-14 liters per 100 km in the city, 8-9 on the highway. But for business class, this is par for the course. I consider this the price of comfort and image.

The powertrain's reliability has been 100% after four years and 85,000 km. No breakdowns, oil leaks, or strange noises. I strictly follow the official dealer's maintenance schedule: oil and filter changes every 15,000 km, and all fluids changed every two years. Maintenance at the dealership costs around 25,000-30,000 rubles. This is more expensive than an independent mechanic, but I pay for the quality guarantee, genuine parts, and the maintenance history, which is important for future resale. Plus, the dealer always offers a replacement car during the service, which is crucial for my schedule.

Ride smoothness: one of the main advantages, the suspension filters out unevenness perfectly.

Soundproofing: at a level close to premium brands, road noise is particularly suppressed.

Climate control: dual-zone, works flawlessly, quickly warms up and cools the interior.

Cruise control: adaptive, with the function of following the car in front, indispensable on long trips.

Light: Full LED headlights with automatic light switching, provide excellent illumination.

Technology, comfort and minor disappointments

The Prestige trim is loaded with electronics. Here's what's truly useful in daily use: a head-up display—speed and navigation directions are projected onto the windshield, so you don't have to take your eyes off the road; a 360-degree camera system—parking the five-meter sedan is now easy even in tight spaces; a blind spot monitoring system—warns you of vehicles you can't see in your mirrors; ventilated and massage front seats—your back will thank you after hours on the road; and a premium Infinity audio system with 12 speakers—the sound is superb; I often listen to audiobooks and classical music on the road.

But there are some technological shortcomings. The multimedia system with an 8-inch screen is already outdated. The interface isn't the most intuitive, and it reacts to touch inputs with a delay. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto only connect via a wired connection, and there's only one USB port on the dashboard. For a modern car, this is, to put it mildly, unusual. The navigation system also doesn't have the most up-to-date maps; I use Google Maps through CarPlay. Another drawback is the sensitive security system. If you decide, for example, to quickly open the door before the car has come to a complete stop, it locks the handle. This is safe, but sometimes annoying.

As for practicality, the 510-liter trunk can accommodate several suitcases or golf bags. It's a bit awkwardly shaped—a narrow opening and a deep well—but overall it gets the job done. There's plenty of storage space inside: a huge cooled glove compartment, a niche under the center armrest, and door pockets. My passengers always find somewhere to stash a tablet, documents, or a bottle of water.

Cost of ownership and image component

Owning a top-of-the-line Kia Optima demonstrates a smart approach to business. You demonstrate that you value quality and comfort, but you don't overspend or overpay for the brand. My clients and partners always respond positively: "It's a solid car," "It's comfortable," "And the interior is just like a German car." That's exactly the effect I was aiming for.

Insurance: CASCO + OSAGO costs approximately 70-80 thousand rubles per year.

Maintenance: at the dealer 25-30 thousand rubles per year (with my mileage of 20-25 thousand km).

Tires: two sets on alloy wheels, replaced every 3-4 seasons, about 50 thousand rubles for a set of 4 tires.

Car wash and dry cleaning: car wash every two weeks, interior dry cleaning every six months – about 25 thousand rubles per year.

Fuel: with a consumption of 11 l/100 km and a mileage of 25 thousand km - approximately 165 thousand rubles per year.

Total annual expenses (excluding depreciation) amount to approximately 350,000-400,000 rubles. For a business-class car, this is a very modest sum. For example, maintaining a Volkswagen Passat or Audi A4 of similar size and equipment would cost 30,000-50,000 rubles more, especially for maintenance and spare parts. However, the Optima is in no way inferior in terms of comfort and features, and in some ways even surpasses them (for example, in the number of electronic assistance systems included in the standard version).

Results: Who is this car for and what to expect from it?

The 2019 Kia Optima, in either the Prestige or GT-line trim, is the ideal choice for businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and mid-level executives who want to emphasize their status while maintaining financial prudence. This is a car for those who spend a lot of time on the road and value comfort, quietness, and a smooth ride. It's also a car for those who want to make the right impression on clients or partners. And it's also a car for those who don't want to deal with the unpredictable breakdowns and expensive repairs that plague some premium brands.

Disadvantages to be aware of: an outdated multimedia system, a less-than-efficient engine, high maintenance requirements (you can't skimp on it), and complex and expensive repairs to electronic systems if they fail (nothing has happened yet, thank God). The car is also quite large, which can be a bit of a nuisance in heavy city traffic and tight parking spaces.

My personal conclusion: I'm more than satisfied with my purchase. Over the past four years, the Optima has never let me down on business trips, always performed like a Swiss watch, commanded respect from those around me, and provided me and my passengers with the highest level of comfort. It has proven that the Korean auto industry can create cars that not only match, but in some ways surpass, established European business-class standards. If you're looking for a solid, comfortable, technologically advanced, and reliable sedan at a reasonable price, the Kia Optima should be on your shortlist. Just take its selection and maintenance seriously, and it will become your reliable business partner for years to come. I plan to drive mine for at least as long until an equally worthy and reasonable replacement appears.

Four years ago, I was faced with the challenge of choosing a car for business trips that would combine a solid appearance with a high level of comfort for me...

[60

post-20793","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-avtomobili","hvn-theme-has-thumbnail
["GET
