I wanted a stylish, technologically advanced, yet practical and affordable crossover. Now, having driven it for over 70,000 kilometers on a variety of roads, I can confidently say it was one of the best choices of my life. The Sportage turned out to be more than just a pretty face; it's a smart, reliable, and very comfortable companion.

Sportage exterior design fourth generation after restyling, is its strong point. It looks aggressive, bold, and very modern. Narrow, "tiger-like" headlights with LED daytime running lights, a wide grille, and textured lines on the hood and doors – the car attracts attention. My Sportage in bright blue Sparkling Metal with a black roof (two-tone paint option) and 19-inch wheels looks like a concept car. The body quality is good: the panels are smooth, the paintwork is durable. After three years, it has almost no chips, despite active use. The dimensions (4.48 m long and 1.85 m wide) are a happy medium. In the city, it is maneuverable and easy to park, and stable on the highway.

The 172 mm ground clearance is sufficient for overcoming high curbs, light off-roading, and snowdrifts. I never got stuck, even in deep snow. The LED headlights are powerful and effective. The high beams illuminate the road for hundreds of meters. The fog lights, integrated into the black plastic inserts in the bumper, look stylish and work perfectly. Overall, the Sportage remains a solid performer even after years – its design has proven durable and timeless.

Interior: style, technology and sophisticated ergonomics

The Sportage GT Line's interior is a pleasant place to spend time. The trim combines soft-touch plastic on the dashboard, leather on the seats and steering wheel, red contrast stitching, and carbon fiber-look inserts. It all looks youthful and sporty. Build quality is excellent—not a single squeak or rattle in three years. The dashboard is driver-focused. The flat-bottomed, leather-wrapped steering wheel features easy-to-use paddle shifters and controls for the cruise control and audio system.

The instrument cluster features a combination of analog speedometer and tachometer dials, plus a 7-inch color display between them that can display navigation, entertainment information, or vehicle performance data. The centerpiece is the 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with navigation. The interface is logical, the screen is clear, and the response is quick. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired) are supported. Below the screen is a row of physical buttons for climate control and heated seats, which is very convenient. The dual-zone climate control works flawlessly.

The seats feature a sporty design and rich lateral support, with red stitching. They are heated and ventilated. The driver's seat is six-way power adjustable. There's enough room front and rear to comfortably seat four adults. A fifth person in the back will feel cramped due to the pronounced tunnel. The trunk, at 491 liters, is among the best in its class. It's well-shaped and has a low loading height. The 60/40 split-folding rear row creates a flat floor and ample space. Interior soundproofing is good for its class.

Quality of materials: good, everything feels pleasant to the touch, not cheap.

Ergonomics: Excellent. All controls are intuitive from day one.

Multimedia: The UVO system is one of the most user-friendly. Voice control works well.

Lighting: atmospheric multi-colored interior lighting (you can choose the color), instrument lighting – red, in a sporty style.

Storage systems: there are enough niches and cup holders, there is a convenient armrest with a compartment.

1.6 T-GDi turbo engine and 7DCT transmission: drive and efficiency

The heart of my Sportage is a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection. It produces 177 hp and 265 Nm of torque, available from as low as 1,500 rpm. That's the real kick. The car doesn't wait for you to rev it up—it shoots off, delivering confident and rapid acceleration. Overtaking on the highway is easy and safe. And the engine is very fuel-efficient. My average fuel consumption over the entire trip is 8.2 liters per 100 km. In the city, in stop-and-go mode, it's 9-10 liters, and on the highway at 110 km/h, 6.5-7 liters. For a crossover with all-wheel drive and such performance, this is an excellent result.

The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT). This has its pros and cons. Pros: lightning-fast shifts (especially in Sport mode or with manual paddle shifters), excellent fuel economy. Cons: in "D" mode in the city, especially in traffic jams, when starting slowly and maneuvering, the transmission can be a bit hesitant, and shifts from first to second gear can sometimes be felt as a slight jolt. You get used to this, and you begin to anticipate the transmission's behavior, applying the accelerator pedal more smoothly. On the highway, with spirited driving, the transmission works perfectly. All-wheel drive is engaged via a clutch. Under normal conditions, it is front-wheel drive. If the front wheels slip, the rear axle engages almost instantly. The system works great on wet roads, snow, and light off-road conditions.

The Sportage's handling is typically Korean: light, predictable, and comfortable. The steering is very light at low speeds, which is convenient for parking, but it becomes slightly heavier at higher speeds. The suspension is tuned for comfort: it handles bumps well, but there's some body roll in corners. This isn't a sports car, but a comfortable crossover for city driving and touring. The brakes are confident, and the pedal is firm.

Turbo engine maintenance and reliability

A turbocharged direct-injection engine requires more careful maintenance than a naturally aspirated engine. I strictly follow the maintenance schedule and get it serviced at an authorized dealer. I change the oil and filters every 10,000 km (or once a year) with genuine fully synthetic oil. I change the air filter every 20,000 km. The fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump module and doesn't require frequent replacement. Fuel quality is key. Direct injection is sensitive to dirty gasoline, which can lead to carbon deposits on the intake valves (the so-called "carbon buildup" problem). I only fill up at trusted chain gas stations, preferably with 95-octane or 98-octane gasoline, and periodically (every 20,000-30,000 km) I use high-quality fuel system cleaner additives.

Oil: Only with the correct specifications. The wrong oil can ruin the turbo.

Turbine: After a long drive on the highway, do not turn off the engine immediately, let it idle for 30-60 seconds to cool the turbocharger.

Spark plugs: on turbo engines they are changed more frequently, every 30-40 thousand km.

The dual clutch transmission (DCT) doesn't like prolonged wheel spin in mud or snow—it can overheat. It's best to avoid serious off-roading.

Battery: The start-stop system and numerous electronics quickly drain the battery. Check the charge in winter.

Electronic systems and security: a smart assistant

The GT Line trim includes an expanded safety and assistance package. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system, which prevents frontal collisions, has been triggered several times in the city when someone braked sharply. It first warns, then, if there's no response, it automatically applies the brakes. The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) gently applies steering input if you start to drift off the lane markings. It's useful on the highway, but can be turned off in the city. Smart Cruise Control (SCC) – adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go – is my best friend on long trips and in traffic jams. It works smoothly and predictably.

Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW)—blind spot monitoring with indicators on the mirrors—and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW)—a rear cross-traffic alert when reversing—are very useful. The parking assistance system with a 360-degree camera and sensors makes parking easy even in tight spaces. Keyless entry, push-button start, and a power trunk—all are present and work flawlessly. In three years, not a single electronic system has malfunctioned.

Bottom Line: Why I'd Choose the Sportage Again

In three years, the 2019 Kia Sportage has never let me down. It started in any frost, drove smoothly on any road, and carried both family and cargo. It proved to be an incredibly well-balanced vehicle: stylish but not pretentious; technologically advanced but not overly cluttered; fuel-efficient but dynamic; comfortable but easy to drive. Its cost of ownership has proven predictable and low. Scheduled maintenance is reasonably priced, parts are readily available, and reliability is excellent.

It's not perfect. It has a slightly sluggish steering wheel in traffic, a less-than-quiet suspension on gravel, and some plain plastic trim on the lower part of the cabin. But these shortcomings are completely offset by its strengths. For me, the Sportage is the perfect urban crossover, yet ready for travel and light off-roading. Its turbocharged engine delivers an exhilarating driving experience, yet it won't break the bank at the gas station. If you're looking for a stylish, smart, reliable, and affordable car for an active lifestyle, the 2019 Kia Sportage is one of the best options on the market. It's a car you'll find yourself recommending to friends and one that's still a joy to drive every day.

When I was looking for my first new car three years ago, I chose a 2019 Kia Sportage in GT Line trim with a turbocharged petrol engine…

[60

post-20805","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-avtomobili","hvn-theme-has-thumbnail
["GET
