The film "Jack Reacher" is based on Lee Child's book series of the same name, specifically the ninth book, "One Shot." Christopher McQuarrie directed and wrote the screenplay. In addition to starring, Cruise also co-produced the film with Don Granger, Paula Wagner, and Gary Levinson. <\/p>\n

The supporting cast includes Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, Jai Courtney, Joseph Sikora, and David Oyelowo, among others.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the plot revolves around Jack Reacher, a former military investigator investigating the case of a sniper accused of killing five random people. He becomes involved in the case after the suspect, James Barr, refuses to talk and asks the authorities to arrest him. Reacher soon begins working with lawyer Helen Rodin, and together they uncover conspiracies and corruption deeply rooted in the system.<\/p>\n

It's worth noting that Jack Reacher is a very imposing figure in the books. So, when the studio announced Tom Cruise would play the lead role, fans of the book expressed concern, particularly about the actor's height. While the character is 196 cm tall in the books, the Top Gun star is almost a foot shorter.<\/p>\n

However, Lee Child was pleased with the casting and even defended it in a 2011 interview with the BBC. He said, "It's absolutely impossible to literally translate the page to the screen. Paradoxically, to convey the atmosphere of a book on screen, you have to change almost everything about it.". <\/p>\n

Jack Reacher was released on December 21, 2012, and immediately proved why casting Cruise in the role was a brilliant decision. Both critics and audiences praised the actor's performance. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a critic rating of 64% and an audience rating of 67%.<\/p>\n

The film was also a huge commercial success, grossing $218.3 million worldwide against a $60 million budget (according to Box Office Mojo). A sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, was released in 2016.<\/p>\n
