Photo: Steve Granitz\/FilmMagic<\/p>\n<p> However, Russell emphasized that while he wasn&#039;t trying to &quot;escape&quot; Los Angeles when he made the decision to leave, it wasn&#039;t a common choice among his entertainment industry peers at the time.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;I didn&#039;t run away. I just lived where I lived,&quot; he said. &quot;I&#039;m lucky it didn&#039;t really change anything. But when I did, no one else did. A lot of people said to me, &#039;Well, that&#039;s it. That&#039;s it.&#039; I said, &#039;Well, we&#039;ll see.&#039;&quot;.<\/p>\n<p> Russell said he has since noticed more people leaving Los Angeles in the years since he moved.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;I don&#039;t dislike Los Angeles,&quot; he told PEOPLE. &quot;It&#039;s just not the lifestyle I&#039;d prefer.&quot;.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;You have to understand something about Old Snowmass,&quot; he added. &quot;Everyone who lives there lives there because they want to. Photo: Gilbert Flores\/Penske Media via Getty<\/p>\n<p> Russell also told PEOPLE that he and Hawn, 80, wanted to take the opportunity to share the Colorado experience with their children.<\/p>\n<p> Together, they are parents to children: Boston Russell, whom Kurt had with ex-wife Season Hubley; Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson from Goldie&#039;s previous relationship with Bill Hudson; and Wyatt Russell, the couple&#039;s youngest child, whom they had together.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;Living in Colorado is very different from living in the city,&quot; Russell told PEOPLE. &quot;They grew up enjoying nature. It has its challenges, but it also has great benefits. I just feel more comfortable there.&quot;.<\/p>\n<p> \u00ab&quot;It was just like growing up in Maine,&quot; he continued, recalling his childhood. &quot;I guess when you encounter something like that, it&#039;s always home.
