Director-author Martin Scorsese<\/strong> spoke about the use AI<\/strong> in filmmaking. Scorsese works as a consultant for the AI development company Black Forest Labs, and is collaborating with them to experiment with their AI technology for storyboarding. He also urged Hollywood and audiences to be open-minded about AI and embrace its positive qualities.<\/p>\n

Martin Scorsese has supported the use of AI in filmmaking. The 83-year-old director has come out in defense of Black Forest Labs. For those unfamiliar, it specializes in "visual intelligence" using its FLUX image generator. On June 2, the company announced that Scorsese would be assisting them as a consultant in developing visual intelligence for their website.<\/p>\n

The director of "The Wolf of Wall Street" explained his decision to embrace AI in a new statement. He revealed that he plans to use AI tools in the storyboarding process during pre-production (as reported by Entertainment Weekly).<\/p>\n

Scorsese explained that he's been creating storyboards himself for 70 years. He acknowledged that translating his vision onto paper and communicating it to the cast and crew during production is a challenging task. The seasoned director reflected, "I'm interested in the intersection of technology and storytelling, and how it can expand the boundaries of creativity, creating deeper and richer experiences for audiences.".<\/p>\n

The director explained that throughout his career, he has embraced and mastered new technologies. Scorsese stated, "Remember, cinema is a young art form, only about 125 years old, so we have to be open to how it can evolve." Notably, the director discussed how he used 3D for "Hugo" and de-aging technology for "The Irishman.".<\/p>\n

Scorsese said that now, thanks to AI tools, he can better explain his vision. He can also communicate more effectively with his creative team. The Taxi Driver director admitted that "being able to visualize and instantly share storyboards has given me creative freedom." He added that time is valuable, and these AI tools allowed them to work faster without sacrificing quality or craftsmanship.<\/p>\n

Scorsese is directing his next film, an adaptation of Peter Cameron's gothic detective novel What Happens at Night. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.<\/p>\n
