Photo: UNICEF<\/p>\n<p> In an exclusive interview, Klum reflects on the transformative moments she witnessed during UNICEF visits to Haiti and India, shares how she encourages creativity in her family, and explains why she&#039;s optimistic about the future of the next generation.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>You traveled with UNICEF to Haiti and India and experienced the organization&#039;s programs firsthand. Were there any moments from these trips that forever changed your outlook as a mother?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Absolutely. When I traveled to India and Haiti with UNICEF, I met so many mothers who had endured unimaginable hardships. The sight of premature babies in Haiti, wrapped in plastic bags under table lamps, is something I will never forget. It made me realize how much so many of us have, and how many children around the world still lack even the most basic necessities. As a mother, I&#039;ve learned something very simple: no matter where we come from, every parent wants the same thing: for their children to feel safe, loved, and protected.<\/p>\n<p> What struck me most was how strongly children respond to even the smallest acts of kindness. Why is it so important to teach children from an early age to help others around the world?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> I believe it&#039;s crucial to teach children from an early age that they can make a difference in the world. When a child holds a little orange box and understands that the coins they collect can buy clean water, medicine, or food for another child anywhere in the world, it&#039;s a beautiful thing. It teaches them empathy and shows them that it&#039;s never too early to start making a difference.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>This year&#039;s announcement comes in the lead-up to International Day of Play. Why is play so important for children now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> June 11th marks International Day of Play, and I love that we celebrate something so simple yet so important. Play for children is not a luxury, but a right. Working with UNICEF, I&#039;ve seen how play can bring comfort and joy to children experiencing conflict and crisis. Even in the most difficult moments, children deserve to laugh, imagine, and simply be children. That&#039;s why UNICEF treats play with the same urgency as other vital services. In 2024 alone, UNICEF will provide nearly 20,000 early childhood development kits and over 27,000 recreation kits to children in high-stress settings around the world. Do you feel that the role of brand ambassador is particularly important to you at this stage in your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Absolutely. This work is incredibly important to me personally because UNICEF is an organization I hold very dear. I worked with them for a while, promoting the &quot;Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF&quot; program. I also traveled to India and Haiti, where I saw firsthand the incredible work UNICEF does. As a parent, there&#039;s nothing more important to me than ensuring children have the resources and support they need to thrive. UNICEF is so important because it truly matters to every child.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>When you think about the future of children around the world, what gives you the most hope right now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The children themselves! This younger generation is so passionate, so knowledgeable, and they truly speak out. And then there&#039;s the knowledge that UNICEF works every day to create a more just world for every child. Seeing the energy of young people combined with the power of UNICEF gives me so much hope.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>In today&#039;s fast-paced, screen-centric world, how can you encourage creativity in your own family?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> It can be challenging when we&#039;re all traveling and have busy work schedules, but spending quality time together, without distractions, has always been a priority for our family. I always encourage my children to find creative pursuits, whether it&#039;s art, music, cooking, or any other interest. I love hanging their artwork throughout the house. We have a very busy schedule year-round, so in the summer we try to make time to relax, spend time together, and go to the beach.<\/p>\n<p> You with <strong>Henry&#039;s son<\/strong> <strong>became a popular couple on the red carpet<\/strong> <strong>. What is it like to watch him perform on stage with you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> It&#039;s been incredible to watch him come to the forefront and master the modeling industry. I never encouraged my children to follow in my footsteps, I just wanted them to pursue their passions and find their own way. When Henry approached me and said he wanted to pursue a modeling career, I was thrilled to support him. He&#039;s such a wonderful date and red carpet companion!
