He was executed for his crimes. However, the company continued to exist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flea circuses are largely a thing of the past, and very few people today have likely ever seen one, even if they know what they are. The name isn't a gimmick; the idea was that someone gathered fleas together and had them perform tricks in a replica of a tiny circus.<\/span><\/p>\n

This concept is much older than you might think, dating back to the 1500s. Watchmakers, known for their ability to craft precise yet tiny gears and metal parts, used flea circuses primarily as a marketing tool. In one story, a watchmaker made a tiny gold chain and draped it over a flea to make it pull a small<\/span> chariot<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

While most flea circuses were simply stunts operated by tiny machines and magnets, some were anything but. In the 1800s, Louis Bertolotto allegedly re-enacted Napoleon's battle.<\/span> at Waterloo<\/span> with more than 400 fleas in military uniform.<\/span> At Oktoberfest in Munich performs<\/span> a real flea circus<\/span> .<\/span><\/p>\n

Fleas, of course, can't be taught real tricks, but they are predictable and can be tamed. They can at least jump.<\/span> 50 times<\/span> larger than their height. The now popular story about Edison's last breath was that<\/span> Henry Ford wanted this.<\/span> A real breath escaping from the lips of a dying man. Why? Well, Ford and Edison were good friends in life, and Edison was something of a personal hero to the young man. They admired each other professionally, and Edison greatly inspired Ford's automobile designs.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Edison lay dying, Ford asked his son Charlie to wait with him and, when the moment came, capture his dying breath in the vial and seal it. This is something the friends apparently did back in the 1930s. Rumors swirled that Ford, a man with a complex set of spiritual beliefs, may have been attempting to capture Edison's soul to bring him back to life.<\/span><\/p>\n

The real story is very similar, but less mind-blowing. Edison's son said that when his father died, there were test tubes in the room, and he asked the doctor to seal them with paraffin. So perhaps some of his dying breath was in those tubes. But there were also eight of them, and Ford still got one.
