Rosamund Pike scolded an audience member for texting during her performance of "Inter Alia" last weekend. During her bow after the performance on Saturday, the "Gone Girl" actress revealed she noticed someone texting in the stalls while she was attempting a tense, pivotal scene.
Without naming a specific person, Pike explained why such behavior is disruptive to actors during a performance.
«"Someone... was posting in this place—you know who you are. I'm not going to single out anyone, but, you know, it's frustrating... maybe it was really important. Maybe you're a doctor and you're saving someone's life, and I hope that's the case," she said, drawing laughter from the audience.
According to a video obtained by Mail Online from another viewer, the Die Another Day star continued: "But we see things—we feel them. I feel you all, I feel like I need to hug you all. So when I feel it and see it, it's hard for me.".
The Oscar nominee added: "I'm trying to tell you a story, and I feel you, and I hope you feel me too.".
After her speech, she was greeted with applause from the audience.
Additionally, several theatergoers on social media praised Pike for raising the issue during his post-performance bow.
«"During her bow, she took the time to point out that such behavior is unacceptable, especially in a key scene. Actors are performing live, right in front of you. Put your phones down for a couple of hours," wrote one user on X.
Another user wrote: "Rosamund Pike telling off a member of the audience in the stalls who texted during a very important/intense moment during the curtain call after the performance was pretty cool.".
In Inter Alia, Pike plays London Royal Court judge Jessica Parkes, whose professional principles clash with her personal life.
The play will return to London's Wyndham Theatre on June 20th. It will move to Broadway in November.
