Madeline White responded to online criticism over the name she and her husband, Andrew Fedyk, chose for their first daughter. The 30-year-old blogger announced on June 2 that she gave birth prematurely, at approximately 33 weeks, following an emergency C-section and placental abruption. The couple also revealed their daughter's name, which had been speculated about since before her birth, revealing they had chosen Juliet Julie Fedyk. Commenters quickly pointed out that, despite her middle name, Juliet was born in June (however, Madeline had previously posted online that she was technically due in July). The blogger, who has 5.3 million followers on her main TikTok account and nearly 500,000 on her secondary account @poutinesmom, mocked online comments about her name choice. "Why call her Julie if she was born in June? Now she will have to answer the question: «Oh, I was supposed to be born in July.„.
«Wrong. Sorry, wrong,» Madeline said, dismissing theories about the name’s origin. «Come on, everyone’s named April. Were you born in April? Come on, everyone’s named May. Has anyone checked January Jones’s birth certificate? God forbid you name a child a name that has absolutely no relation to when they were born.» Madeline added, «And if she was born in December, she’d still have July as her middle name.» TikTok users flooded the comments section in support of the blogger, many sharing humorous observations about the origins of their own names. «My name is Lily, I’m not a flower,» wrote one user. «My name is Violet, and I’m not purple,» added another. Others noted that there are plenty of people named Autumn who weren’t born in the fall, and plenty of people named Winter who weren’t born in the winter month.

Before the birth, Madeline shared on TikTok several names she and Andrew had come up with for their daughter, which they had kept as "backups" in case someone looked at their daughter and decided she didn't resemble the name they had chosen. Her list included names like Maud (which Madeline said reminded her of Demi Engmann's daughter's name from The Secret Life of Mormon Wives« ) and Cosette, although Madeleine said that she was not very happy with his connection with «Les Miserables» . Cicely and Iris were other contenders, as was Constance (whom Andrew rejected because he felt they would "name the baby after Conrad from the movie «"The Summer I Became Beautiful"» ). The name Romy was also considered a top contender for a while, until Madeline learned it was predicted to be one of the most popular names for girls this year. In a TikTok post that same day, Madeline shed light on the circumstances of her daughter's birth. Addressing the camera as if speaking to her daughter, Madeline, lying in a hospital bed, said, "Hey baby, you were premature—possibly placental abruption, possibly something else—but it looks like you'll be arriving in the next couple of days. Can't wait to meet you, can't wait to meet you.".
In the caption, she continued, "Our brave, strong, beautiful baby girl arrived at just 33 weeks (in her time, like a true diva 💅). We are absolutely delighted with her ❤️ We are so grateful to our amazing medical team for helping us both get through this safely, and to the amazing NICU staff for all they do. Be back soon xx.".
The English fashion influencer first announced her pregnancy and the pregnancy of her first child with Andrew in January, after keeping the news a secret for "several months." The couple then announced the baby was due in July.
