Forget The Last of Us and Fallout—there's a new TV series based on the popular online game Among Us. However, the creator of the new series claims that you don't need to play the game to enjoy the project.
«"I think anyone who's played the game will love it. I also think it's for people who want to watch an animated series, a detective story, or a comedy, not just as a game adaptation," Owen Dennis says in an interview with GamesRadar+. "I don't want to create something that's just an adaptation of something else. I want it to be a work that can stand on its own, so it stands on its own. It's its own project.".
In fact, voice actors Kimiko Glenn, who voices the crystal-loving Cyan, Randall Park, who voices Captain Red, Yvette Brown, who voices HR manager Orange, and Elijah Wood, who voices intern Green, had never played the game before. "I think anyone who starts watching will have a hard time stopping, just because it's so clever and so funny," Glenn said, while Park added, "If you're a fan of sci-fi, if you're a fan of mystery, suspense, even horror, this show touches on all of that.".
However, there are hidden Easter eggs for fans, and some are more obvious than others, like crew members calling meetings and how using ventilation shafts automatically makes you superstitious—we won't spoil the rest here. But Dennis says he never wanted to "insert Easter eggs unless they served the story," and that everything included "has a reason for its existence beyond just being in the game." This is done so that "someone who's never seen the game won't need a backstory or have to do homework to understand what's going on.".

Among Us is a detective game in which players don miniature astronaut costumes of different colors and must complete tasks to keep a spaceship running. However, among the crew members, there are one or two impostors who sabotage the tasks and kill the players one by one. The TV show is based on a similar concept, but since the minigame lacks the strict plot of a carefully scripted game, Dennis was free to create dramatic tension. Dennis, known for his other animated series, Regular Show, drew inspiration from sci-fi classics like The Thing and Alien, which share similarities with the game itself.
Given the game's specific nature, Dennis sees the possibility of creating new seasons. "I have a rough idea of how I'd like to continue. I'd try to draw inspiration from the fact that every time you play, the game is a little different," the creator said. "I'd like to develop this idea further, and I think I'll stop here for now.".
