If there was one ingredient that was absolutely essential for success «Wuthering Heights» , What's special about these two stars is that they make us hang on their every word as Cathy and Heathcliff. Emerald Fennell's film definitely lucked out with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, but they knew what they were looking for. Robbie said she needed "incredible chemistry," and there was a clear moment when she realized she had it with her co-star. Funnily enough, that scene isn't actually in the film.
After «Wuthering Heights» With the film "The Last Jedi" becoming one of the most anticipated films of 2026 and available to watch on streaming platforms, it's interesting to learn more about what went on behind the scenes. In an interview with Refinery29, Robbie recounted a scene where she and Elordi realized they "got each other" as an on-screen couple:
There were a few moments like that. Even on the first day. We were shooting the first scene of the film, where Cathy opens the curtains on the bed, and Heathcliff is lying in bed. And then we cut that part, but I went up to him, crouched down, and got this close to his face, and said to him, "Get up, we have neighbors," or something like that.
What an amazing and funny fact! I think they would love to have that moment when the stars "« Wuthering Heights» They really clicked on set, and he stayed in the film, but on the other hand, part of what makes this film good is all that angst. As Robbie explained:
We cut that part because we wanted to preserve that intimacy. But, you know, it was the first day of shooting, and even then, everyone was excited. And we were like, "Okay, I think this movie will work." Plus, she throws something at him, and he throws it back, and he's like, "What?" There was already a certain tension between them that I think we could have developed further.
Oh, but now I so want to see that scene! I can totally imagine these two characters living in the same house, growing too close without even realizing it, having grown up together, and then drifting apart in more public situations. Still, I'm sure if it wasn't the best decision for these characters, it wasn't the best decision for the film either. But it must have been a wonderful feeling.

When CinemaBlend spoke with writer-director Fennell, we asked her why it takes so long for the couple to kiss, and she responded that it was important to her to make it "uncomfortable" for audiences to see those scenes before they engage in intimacy, because "the anticipation is the fun." And during our conversation with Robbie and Elordi, they told us they believe Heathcliff and Cathy fell in love in their very first scene together, as children.
While it's easy for viewers to scream at the TV screen, "Just kiss!" in the context of this story, which isn't really meant to be an epic romantic drama, the characters belong to different social classes, and it was considered improper for them to decide to become a couple or have a romantic relationship before marriage. Ultimately, while we empathize with these two, theirs is an incredibly tragic story. But it's entertaining nonetheless!
