Most self-respecting bands go through some kind of metamorphosis in their careers. They evolve their sound to stay relevant. Sometimes fans respond positively to the musical changes. Other times, the new direction causes more controversy than expected. Metallica's album «Load» At the time of its release, it fell into the second category.
Debuting on this day in 1996, Metallica's sixth studio album took a more hard rocking direction, abandoning its thrash metal roots. During the recording process, the band incorporated non-metal elements into their songs, resulting in a fusion of styles such as grunge, blues rock, and Southern rock. Lyrically, Load became Metallica's most personal album, as the singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield turned to his inner experiences. In 2025 Bob Rock , album producer Load и Reload , a continuation of the previous one, defended Metallica's current creative period. "These records are on par with anything else we've done creatively... I'm very proud of these records," he said.
