Veteran of the program «60 Minutes» Scott Pelley was fired from CBS after a heated exchange with the show's new executive producer, Nick Bilton, who accused the longtime journalist of "ambush," "hostility," and "inappropriate behavior" in a shocking resignation letter obtained by PEOPLE.
The letter, signed by Bilton, notifies Pelley that his employment with CBS is "terminated for cause effective immediately.".
«"I am deeply disappointed that you rejected this offer and instead opted for ambush tactics," the letter reads. "Yesterday, you disrupted my first staff meeting to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with astonishing impoliteness and contempt.".
The letter goes on to accuse Pelley of "ostentatious hostility" and "lack of interest in the show's future success.".
«"My goal is to produce top-notch news programming, not to make headlines for newsroom drama," the letter reads. "I look forward to working with others who share this goal.".
«"Your opposition to the future series has been made clear and unambiguous," the letter continues. "And I heard you.".
The dismissal came after reports The New York Times и The Guardian , Pelley allegedly clashed with Bilton during a tense program staff meeting. «60 Minutes» .
According to the reports, Bilton told staff that CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss "adores program "60 minutes" »"," to which Pelley replied, "She kills." «60 minutes »"She doesn't like this place, she was invited to destroy it, and that's exactly what she's doing.".

«"She's not qualified for this job; you're not qualified for this job," Pelley reportedly continued, according to The New York Times newspaper . "The changes she made to the Evening News were disastrous, so why should we expect it to get any better?"«
Bilton reportedly replied, "Well, I'll show you. That's all I can say. That's my plan for the next two weeks. I'll meet everyone. I'm very happy to meet everyone, including you.".
As PEOPLE previously reported, Bilton was promoted to executive producer last week as part of a larger reorganization of the CBS news program's leadership.
