Actor James Handy, known for the film "Top Gun: Maverick", was fatally stabbed and the suspect called 911 to confess.
Handy, 81, was killed in Tarzana, California, on Wednesday, June 3, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced in a Thursday, June 4, press release obtained by PEOPLE. The suspect was identified as Handy's girlfriend's son, Michael Gledhill.
According to a dispatch audio recording obtained by PEOPLE, police arrived at the scene at Handy's home after a man called 911 reporting an "unknown problem." The man told dispatchers, "I'm the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.".
Law enforcement officers then found Handy unconscious in his yard, suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Handy was transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, where he was pronounced dead.

According to an audio recording of the conversation, the streets near Handy's home were blocked off by law enforcement officers. Authorities were also instructed to begin door-to-door canvassing the area and "report who is answering the door and who is not," the recording states.

Gledhill, 44, was arrested and taken to the Van Nuys jail. He is charged with one count of murder, and his bail is set at $2 million, according to jail records obtained by PEOPLE.
Born in New York City, Handy has played supporting roles in dozens of major blockbusters and television shows. His extensive list of credits includes «Jumanji» , «Arachnophobia» , «"Invulnerable », «Logan» , «NYPD Blue» , «Rizzoli & Isles» , « Nickname », «NCIS Los Angeles» и «Criminal Minds» . His last appearance on screen was in in the film "Top Gun: Maverick"« in 2023.
