Jon Favreau was scheduled to attend UFC Freedom 250 in Washington, D.C., after mistakenly receiving an invitation that was later rescinded.
In a recent episode of the "Pod Save America" podcast, the host, who also worked as a speechwriter for Barack Obama and was a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, explained that he received an email invitation to a UFC fight scheduled to take place at the White House in late June. He quickly accepted.
«"I'm going to read you aloud an email I received on March 25th," Favreau said. "It's from TKO Events, and the subject line is UFC Freedom 250: 'John, we're honored to invite you to UFC Freedom 250 on Sunday, June 14th, for a special evening dedicated to our country.'".
He added: «The possibilities were endless, so I confirmed my participation. On April 2nd, I received another message: «Your ticket to UFC Freedom 250 in Washington, D.C., June 14th, is confirmed.» I started planning… I bought a ticket to Washington.».
The co-founder of Crooked Media knew exactly how the mix-up happened. Like many online users, Favreau was apparently mistaken for the famous director of the same name—Jon Favreau, who has directed films such as Iron Man and, most recently, the new Star Wars film, The Mandalorian, and Grogu. The host said he was exposed when he provided his full name, including his middle initial, which differed from the director's first name. Then, in April, he received an email stating his invitation had been revoked.
«"We sincerely apologize, but we have just discovered a misunderstanding regarding our allocated number of guest invitations for UFC Freedom 250 on June 14th," the email reads. "Unfortunately, as a result, we have insufficient invitations, and we are no longer able to accommodate you. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you back at a future event.".
Favreau was clearly upset that the mistake was noticed. He saw plenty of opportunity in attending the fight.
«"Damn, I was so close," he said. "They got me.".
A UFC fight in front of the White House is scheduled for June 14. It marks the start of the country's massive 250th anniversary celebrations and Trump's birthday party.
