Earl David Reid settled the viral "Shut Up" debate: Kevin Hart was absolutely right. On July 23, the comedy veteran picked up on Hart's growing social media trend and mocked Tony Baker for insisting on adding "twist" to his message.
«"You know, I find this interesting," Reed began. "Kevin Hart is saying that someone needs to shut up. And he's right.".
He then turned his attention to Baker's criticism. "There's another comedian who says, 'There needs to be a certain emphasis on the word 'shut the fuck up.' No, there doesn't!"«

The comedic chain reaction began when Hart posted a short video offering some blunt, unsolicited advice. Wearing sunglasses and barely raising his voice, he told viewers, "I don't know who needs to hear this, but I think it's important. Because I think somebody needs to hear this." Then came the payoff: "Shut the fuck up." Hart repeated the phrase, and the internet picked it up.
On July 21, Baker responded to Hart's criticism on MRECK TV . "You need to add more spice," he said. "You didn't add spice to that 'shut the fuck up.' It was too cool. It was too smooth.".
According to Baker, Hart's sunglasses also hid the intensity the line demanded. "It's all here," he said, gesturing to his eyes. "Especially after you added that 'f*ck.' 'F*ck' is louder than 'hell.'".
Reed rejected the premise entirely. "'Shut the fuck up' means exactly what it means," he retorted. "I don't care if it's your mom, your pastor, or the guy down the street. 'Shut the fuck up' means 'Shut the fuck up.'".
This unassuming answer fits Reed's reputation as a master of improvisation and fearless audience work. The stand-up veteran has spent more than 25 years on stage, performing at "The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno"« , HBO and Showtime, and has worked in morning radio for more than two decades.
Hart's original video has since become a popular way to shut down gossip and unwanted comments.
Even LeBron James spoke out on the matter on July 20, when, according to Bleacher Report , he reposted the message with the caption "BINGO!! Shut up!" in response to Patrick Beverley's speculation about his free agency plans.
