Somehow, Minecraft is back, and this time it's squared. The sequel to the worst movie I saw last year has been fully announced and is now called "The Minecraft Square Movie." Unfortunately, the title isn't bad, but more details were revealed at Minecraft Live, so I'll put my emotions aside and try to simply lay out the details.
The film is expected to premiere on July 23, 2027, and Kirsten Dunst, known to many for her role as Mary Jane in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, will play the female version of Steve, Alex.
But that's not all. Legendary British actor Matt Berry, the man with the amazing voice, will also appear in the game. While his role hasn't yet been confirmed, his costume has led some fans to speculate that he'll be playing the popular creepypasta character Herobrine. For those unfamiliar, Herobrine is a ghostly figure rumored to haunt players' worlds; his legend dates back to 2010.
It's no surprise that we're in for a sequel: the first Minecraft movie was a huge blockbuster and gained widespread popularity among young people.
Several Minecraft content creators, including TommyInnit and Quackity, were featured at the new film's presentation. Along with the trailer, Minecraft also announced an official building contest directly related to the film.
The premise is quite simple. Players are invited to create something amazing. Finalists will be selected, and the winner will be determined by community vote. A special cape will also be given away, and the winning build may even appear in the film itself.
Fans can also expect new biomes, characters, and mobs in the sequel, as the team promises to take viewers even deeper into the world of Minecraft this time around, whatever that means.
I've been playing Minecraft for over ten years, ever since The Yogscast was one of the most popular YouTubers, so the game is very close to my heart. Despite my gripes with the film last year, I still have hope that next year's sequel will live up to expectations.
