Goodbye Magnolias, Hello Skyscrapers – the South Carolina best friends who star in the series «Sweet Magnolia» , are heading to the Big Apple in season five.
When the fifth episode of the series premieres on June 11, viewers will follow the Magnolias—childhood best friends Maddie (Joanna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley)—as Maddie leaves the small fictional town of Serenity, South Carolina, and the trio navigate new heartbreaks, tragedies, and career challenges in the town that never sleeps.
However, nothing can stand in the way of their strong friendship and their weekly margarita nights. The series is based on Sherryl Woods' popular novel series of the same name. And with 11 books written, there's still plenty of material to explore in the film adaptation.

After showing the events that took place during the time jump from Season 3, the Season 4 finale "« Sweet magnolias"» ended on a high: Helen's boyfriend, Eric (Dion Johnston), proposed to her, Maddie married Cal (Justin Bruening), and Dana Sue opened her own culinary studio.

Anderson told Tudum that she was interested in exploring the consequences of Maddie's decision to leave the comfort of Serenity.
«"The reason we even brought this up at the end of Season 4 is because we think a lot of women are grappling with the question of, 'Do I have the right to put myself first, just this once?'"„
She continued, "And how difficult is it for someone like Maddie, who's recently married, has kids still living at home, and has dear friends she sees every day her whole life. She's so deeply connected to this community. Does that mean she has to give up on her dream?"«

All the main cast members will return for the fifth season of the series. «Sweet Magnolias, and the entire cast has already expressed their excitement about the upcoming chapter.

Anderson told Toodom that the theme of Season 5 will be "chasing dreams" as the trio explores the Big Apple—and it won't just be Maddie chasing her own dream, but the entire cast's as well.
«"In the pursuit of a dream, some people catch up, some discover they've changed, and some just stumble," she said. "We love that these three women find themselves in different places each season.".
One of those dreams is Helen's long-awaited wedding. "We've been working towards it for many years," Hadley told the publication. Parade . "So I think it's going to be a wonderful celebration... And since it's Helen, and she's the one who likes the dresses and everything, the wedding should be absolutely magnificent.".
Anderson also said she's excited to explore the Magnolias' relationship in this new phase of their lives. "This adventure is not only incredibly engaging, but it also provides an opportunity to explore different aspects of their relationship in a new context.".
