On Sunday, June 21, Beyoncé surprised fans by posting a seven-minute-plus video chronicling her husband's journey to natural hair. The "Cowboy Carter" singer narrated the video, which was posted on the YouTube channel of her hair care brand, Cécred.

The singer revealed that Jay-Z grew his hair out for over eight years to teach Blue Ivy self-love and confidence. "I always thought it was so beautiful that the real reason Jay grew his hair out was to show Blue that her hair was like his," Beyoncé began.

She recalled that their eldest daughter was around five years old when she began to feel insecure about her natural hair. The singer continued, "When she told her dad about it, it inspired Jay to grow his hair out. We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous locks.".

The hip-hop mogul's decision has thrust his daughter into the spotlight.

According to Beyoncé, watching Jay-Z confidently embrace his natural hair gave Blue Ivy the motivation she needed to step out on stage. The renowned singer noted that it was this period that inspired Blue to become the voice of the award-winning book "Hair Love," as well as songs like "Formation," "Baby Hair," "Afros," and "Brown Skin Girl.".

After eight years of growing his hair, first into dreadlocks and then into long, thick locks, Jay-Z decided it was time for a change. He combed his dreadlocks using Beyoncé's Cécred hair products, and his loving wife called him the brand's "most loyal customer.".

In the video, the artist explained that Jay-Z decided to return to his afro in memory of his late father, Adnis Reeves. Timing was also important, as he wanted to perform with his new hairstyle at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. His father's favorite team was the Philadelphia 76ers, and his signature hairstyle was the afro.

Fans have named the mini-documentary "Best Marketing Campaign Ever.".

The video detailed Jay-Z's journey to growing out his hair, from the moment he decided to grow it out to brushing out his dreadlocks to reveal his new Afro. "I want to thank Jay for trusting Secred in my journey with my new hair. He will forever be my inspiration," Beyoncé concluded.

The rapper's transformation created a sensation among fans, who flooded the comments section with their words of love and support. "This is the best advertising campaign I've ever seen in my life," declared one fan, while another called the post "a real treat" with Beyoncé's voiceover.

A third praised the hip-hop mogul for growing his hair out for his daughter, while another fan praised Beyoncé for releasing the video on Father's Day. Others expressed similar sentiments, saying it was the best Father's Day greeting for Jay-Z.

Although Jay-Z began his journey with natural hair to inspire his eldest daughter, he believed his work was done in 2025. In an interview with Gayle King, the rapper admitted that he tried to convince his family to cut his hair, but they were all vehemently against the decision.

He told a reporter that of all his hairstyles, the one he liked the most in his family was the one with dreadlocks. "Blue just goes crazy. 'No, Dad, you can't cut your hair. It's part of you,'" Jay-Z said of his eldest daughter's reaction to him getting a haircut.

Regarding his younger brother, the artist noted that Rumi was initially on his side, but then changed his mind. Now that no one is supporting him, Jay-Z has begun to consider whether he should get a haircut, as his favorite hairstyle remains the "money cut," or Caesar cut, as seen in a video posted on Instagram.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy supported Jay-Z during difficult times.

The Carter family knows firsthand what it means to support one another, and Jay-Z received support from his family during a difficult time. The Blast covered the story in March, reporting that he opened up about his fight against the harsh accusations of rape in 2025, in which he and Diddy were accused of sexually assaulting a minor.

Jay-Z denied the allegations and refused to settle the case, fighting for his reputation despite the anger and emotional exhaustion the situation caused. The most difficult part was fighting the charges against the backdrop of Blue Ivy's scandal and her appearance in The Lion King, but his daughter and wife happily supported him.

The rapper recalled crying when Blue Ivy proudly showed her support by wearing a T-shirt with his name to school. The teenager, along with Beyoncé, also dismissed rumors by walking the red carpet with Jay-Z, proving the Carters wouldn't be broken by rape allegations.
