Bill Maher has mocked Donald Trump's Freedom 250 festival after organizers failed to book a number of headliners, including Milli Vanilli.
«"We're throwing a huge celebration of America's 250th anniversary. A concert. They've announced the lineup," Maher explained during his monologue on "Real Time" on Friday. "Oh, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Morris Day, Bret Michaels. I think that's very admirable of the president; it shows he cares about the unemployment situation.".
However, as Maher was quick to point out, after this all-star lineup was announced, "a lot of them said, 'No. What are you talking about? We're not playing.'".
In response to the message, Maher joked: "It must be really disappointing not to be able to get a deal with Milli Vanilli.".
The Great American State Fair, organized by President Trump's nonprofit organization, Freedom 250, is a 16-day patriotic celebration on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The fair is scheduled to begin on June 25.
Organizers have announced the lineup for the patriotic event, which initially includes Martina McBride, Morris Day & The Time, The Commodores, Bret Michaels, Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, and C+C Music Factory, among others.
At the time of the program announcement, organizers promised that the festival "will unite all 56 states and U.S. territories in a World's Fair-style celebration of America's 250th anniversary, with live performances, immersive exhibits, patriotic tributes, innovation showcases, cultural programs, and family-friendly fun stretching from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument.".
«"The Great American State Fair will feature performances by legendary artists every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening," the statement read. "Freedom 250 will continue to announce more incredible performers, speakers, and exhibitors in the coming weeks.".
However, in the following days, several performers withdrew from the show, including McBride, Day, The Commodores, Young MC, and Michaels. Furthermore, the event was criticized by Jimmy Kimmel, Jake Tapper, and Megyn Kelly, with the latter calling it "a disaster from start to finish.".
The Freedom 250 lineup still includes C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida, with more names expected to be announced.
