If you've recently purchased frozen pizza from stores like Costco, Target, Walmart, Kroger, or Publix, you might want to check your freezer.
On May 30, Costco sent a letter to members who may have purchased Motor City Pizza Co. cheese bread between February 6 and May 29 notifying them that Champion Foods LLC, maker of the popular frozen pizza, was voluntarily recalling certain lots "due to potential salmonella contamination.".

A product recall notice issued by Champion Foods LLC notes that "this action follows the recall of milk powder by California Dairies, Inc. due to concerns about potential salmonella contamination. The recalled milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that supplies the seasoning mix used in our 5-Cheese Dip.".
The notice from Champion Foods LLC also states: "To date, neither Champion Foods LLC nor our suppliers have received any reports of illnesses or injuries related to this product. Routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer prior to use in the production of Five Cheese Bread has shown that the batches of seasoning are free of salmonella; however, we are taking precautionary measures for the safety of our customers.".

According to Champion Foods LLC, the affected lots were sold nationwide at Costco, Walmart, Giant Landover, Grocery Outlet, Jewel, Kroger, Schnucks, Target, C&S, Bozzuto's, Brookshire Grocery, Meijer, Food City, KeHe, Lipari, Publix, Merchants Dis Hickory, PDI/Hy-Vee, River Valley, SpartanNash, Supervalu and UNFI.

Salmonellosis typically resolves on its own, but infected individuals may experience diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain, usually within 8 to 72 hours of exposure. Nausea, vomiting, chills, headache, and blood in the stool may also occur.
