Two years after the first announcement of a sequel to the film «House on the Road» From Amazon, the director finally shares news about the new action film starring Jake Gyllenhaal. While we wait to see if it will be released in 2026, director Ilya Naishuller discusses the scope of this action-packed sequel.
Neishuller was able to tell ScreenRant about the film. «Roadhouse 2» and express his excitement that everyone will be able to see it. The director shared his impressions of the film, which is currently in post-production, immediately after receiving the script:
I was reading the script for Road House 2, and there was something in there that I immediately thought, "How do we respond to this?" I think we have a great story, we have a fantastic Jake Gyllenhaal, we have an incredible cast around him, like Dave Bautista. I won't go into details, but we were all gathered in the same hallway. It wasn't the first day of shooting, but I was walking around the room telling Jake, "This is a huge movie. I can't wait to show it to everyone.".
You only have to look at Dave Bautista's films to see how he could instantly improve «Roadhouse 2» . Of course, Ilya Naishuller was evasive in his answers to many other questions, given that we still don't know exactly when we'll be able to watch the film with a Prime subscription.
As for how he can bring his own contribution to the films in the series «House on the Road» , Neishuller said he doesn't plan to deviate too much from the work of original director Doug Liman. He also noted that a director's goal is always different when working on a major franchise:
The point of working on a franchise isn't to make it your own. It's to bring your own spin to the story while simultaneously catering to the core audience and attracting new people. It's like Heads of State. I remember people at Amazon saying, "We should try to make this bigger." I loved hearing that. You don't always have to add your own spin to the story. There are so many ideas, we've discussed different aspects, but at some point you realize it starts to become distracting.
It's great to hear such rave reviews about "« House on the Road 2 »" and hints that everything will be "bigger." Although I'm a little disappointed that we still have little information about the plot. So far, we've heard that Jake Gyllenhaal is "thrilled" with the film, which is great, but the star is unlikely to actively reduce his next salary.
We also know that former UFC fighter Conor McGregor won't be returning for the sequel. His stellar performance was one of the highlights of the first film, and while I'd like to believe the sequel won't make me miss his character, it will be a big void to fill in «House on the Road 2» .
Of course, the addition of Big Dave Bautista will enhance the film, and we know many other UFC stars will appear in the sequel. Whether these professional fighters will have the same acting chops as McGregor remains to be seen. Deadline reported some time ago that Rico Verhoeven, Michael Chandler, Michael "Venom" Page, Dustin Poirier, Stephen Thompson, and Tyron Woodley will be joining the team. It's an impressive lineup, but who knows how they'll play out in this upcoming adventure.
Exit film "Road House 2"« is expected in late 2026, and may even be pushed back to 2027. In the meantime, I'm still looking forward to it, although I regret that McGregor hasn't returned to the franchise again.
