Halle Berry praises Gayle King for sharing her story about her ex-husband's infidelity.
On May 27, King appeared on the podcast Call Her Daddy and talked about the moment she discovered her now ex-husband, William Bumpus, was cheating on her with one of her friends. A few days later, on May 29, during an appearance on the show Jenna and Sheinelle, Berry, who faced a similar cheating scandal with her then-husband Eric Benet nearly 20 years ago, praised King for her courage and candor.
«"I'm proud of her for saying that and sharing that story," Berry said, "because it happened to by many of us.".
Berry was married to musician Benet from 2001 to 2005, and Benet later admitted to cheating on her during that time. In 2002, he completed a 35-day rehab program for sex addiction, though both he and Berry expressed doubt that he actually suffered from sex addiction.

Talking about Jenna and Sheinel, Berry said she didn't talk about her ex-husband's infidelity at the time because she had children, but she was able to talk to friends to get through the difficult time. She said talking about her experiences and being able to vent was "really, really helpful.".
«"You remember every detail of the whole situation, and it stays with you forever," Berry said. "So when you can share that in some way, it's therapeutic.".
«"It's kind of cathartic when you can share it with someone else, and someone else can talk about their experience," Berry continued. "So I'm really grateful for that.".
On Alex Cooper's podcast «Call Her Daddy» King detailed the shocking experience of discovering her now-ex-husband, Bumpus, was cheating on her. King had planned to take her two young children on a plane, but when the flight was canceled, she turned around and drove home with the children. There, she discovered Bumpus in the house, and the alarm had gone off.
«"He came running out of the room. He had a towel on, and he was screaming, 'You can't come in,'" King recalled, saying her reaction was, "What do you mean, 'I can't come in'? What are you talking about?"„

When he admitted there was someone else in the house, King began searching—and found her then-girlfriend «hiding behind the door in a towel.».
After King's appearance on the Call Her Daddy program , Bumpus publicly apologized for his past infidelity. In a statement to TMZ and Page Six, the lawyer expressed remorse to King, their children and their spouses, and his grandchildren "for the pain I caused decades ago.".
«"Gail has every right to speak about a painful period that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly 40 years ago," Bumpus said. "I respect her right to tell her story, and I will leave it at that.".
