Producers Jason Blum and James Wan opened the Produced By conference on Saturday with a statement about the film industry's strong recovery from the post-COVID downturn. They enthusiastically spoke about how their studio, Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, is thriving thanks to the success of two acclaimed box office hits—Focus Features' "Obsession" and A24's "Backrooms.".
«"I think there's a new generation of young people from the '70s who are making bold films that are incredibly successful in theaters," Bloom said at the opening of the Producers Guild of America's Produced By event at Universal Studios.

«"Many young people who grew up in an era when going to the movies wasn't an option had no way to tear themselves away from their iPads and watch a movie. And suddenly they had two movies," Bloom said. "This weekend, 'Whiplash' was up $201,000 versus last weekend. Last weekend, it was up $301,000.".
During a panel moderated by PGA President Stephanie Allen, Wang stated emphatically that "the horror genre continues to save our industry.".
Bloom said "Obsession," made on a budget of $750,000, is currently the highest-grossing film released in the United States by Universal's specialty label Focus Features.
