On Monday's program The Daily Show Jon Stewart was puzzled, pointing out that many of the artists who had refused to participate in concerts scheduled by the government organization Freedom 250 had been invited by an agent named "Jeff Epstein.".
«"What the hell?!" Stewart exclaimed. "Jeff Epstein from Universal Attractions is in charge—excuse me—of hiring talent for Donald Trump's party. You're telling me that?!"»
Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted child sex offender, died in 2019. Questions about what President Donald Trump knew and didn't know about the late Epstein's life and his handling of documents related to the case continue to plague the president politically in his second term.

«"When they were planning our country's 250th anniversary celebration, someone had to walk into Donald Trump's office and say, 'I know just the guy!'" Stewart said, as an image of the event organizer appeared on the screen. "How sorry do you feel for this guy? After years of saying, 'No, not that Epstein,' he's finally getting all his speaking engagements. Everything's going according to Epstein's plan. And the appearances are falling through. He finally thought he was getting his happy ending.".
After this, the comedian pretended to understand what he said.
He tried again: «But no, no, once again he was abandoned to his fate.».
When the crowd booed Stewart, he responded with mock indignation: "Too soon?"«
Last week, several artists pulled out of the administration's upcoming Independence Day events, including Martina McBride, Young MC, Bret Michaels, Morris Day and The Time, and The Commodores.
For example, country music star McBride said the event was supposed to be nonpartisan, but it ended up being different.
«"I was offered the opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event, but it turned out to be a scam," she said Thursday. "I asked a lot of questions and was assured it was a nonpartisan event celebrating ALL 50 states. I thought it would be a great way to celebrate the states and bring people together in a way that only music can. I thought of it as a larger-than-life version of the many state fairs I've performed at over the years, celebrating community and what makes each state special. Sounds fun, right? Healthy, even. Yesterday, things started to change, and what we were told is actually not true.".

Young MC, the first to decline participation, said much the same: «The artists were never informed of any political involvement in the event.».
Freedom 250 spokesperson Rachel Reisner told the publication Entertainment Weekly Last week: "Freedom 250 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with no political affiliation dedicated to uniting Americans around our country's 250th anniversary. Freedom 250 is focused on its signature events and celebrations that honor our history and engage all Americans—welcoming all who share our goal to mark this momentous occasion in a way that inspires and unites America.".
Morris Day was totally against it.
«"This is unacceptable to me," Day wrote. "Contrary to rumors, Morris Day and The Time will not be performing at the Great American State Fair.".
