ImGist - I Am the Essence

Macy Gray is returning to Australia with her biggest tour yet (and she'll be heading out on a regional tour).

After selling out concerts in 2024, Grammy Award-winning soul music icon Macy Gray is officially returning to Australia in September and October... and this time with even more fanfare.

The tour, which was named The Encore Tour , will mark Gray's return to major cities and her first regional Australian tour in years, bringing her signature raspy vocals and a string of iconic hits to theatres, clubs and concert halls across the country.

And honestly? Kudos to Maisie for looking at Australia and saying, "No, let's go to Port Macquarie instead.".

This is not just a short victory celebration in the capital.

For more than two decades, selling over 25 million records and winning numerous accolades including a GRAMMY Award, multiple BRIT Awards and releasing ten studio albums, Macy Gray has become one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary soul and R&B.

But Australia has always had particularly close ties with Macy's.

Long before the US fully appreciated her work, Australian audiences enthusiastically received her breakthrough album On How Life Is , and the song I Try became a local hit, helping cement Gray's status as one of those artists whose songs somehow wove their way into the cultural landscape of the early 2000s.

And judging by her own comments, she definitely remembers it.

«"Australia! The band and I always had a great time in Australia and we can't wait to see you all again!" Gray shared in a statement.

«"This time I'm going to places I've never been before and I'll be able to see much more of your beautiful country.".

«We will perform all the songs you want to hear, as well as a few tracks from my new album - The Trouble with the Truth . Australia will be the first country to hear tracks from the new album live, so get your dancing shoes ready and come party with us at a concert in your city!»

The setlist is expected to be heavily comprised of songs from across her discography, including I Try , Still , Do Something , Sexual Revolution , Sweet Baby , as well as tracks from the upcoming album, including her latest single, a reworked version I'm Too Sexy .

Which means, yes: there is a very real chance that someone will hear the song. I Try live and instantly transported to 2001.
