Marjane Satrapi, a French-Iranian graphic artist and director whose animated film «Persepolis» In 2007, he was nominated for an Oscar, and died, reports The Hollywood Reporter . Four-volume graphic novels «Persepolis» , Satrapi's best-known works to English-speaking readers were first published in France between 2000 and 2003, then abridged into two English volumes in 2003 and 2004. They tell the story of a girl growing up in Iran and Austria during the Islamic Revolution. The title refers to the former capital of the Persian Empire. The novels ranked 10th on the list of the 50 best non-superhero graphic novels., according to Rolling Stone magazine . The blurb called the novels "an excellent coming-of-age story set in a place most Westerners know very little about.".
