No matter what horrors we can conjure up with makeup and special effects, the ocean will always remain one of the most terrifying subjects for horror filmmakers to explore. And when they do, it usually involves sharks—as is the case with "Cham," the new marine thriller, which FANGORIA can exclusively reveal ahead of its release this week.
"Cham" was directed by Jonathan Zuck, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dick Grunert. Starring Alice Eve, Eric Michael Cole, Elle Haymond, Sara Siadat, Johnny Gaffney, Lisa Yaro, and Jim Klock, the film's synopsis is as follows:
A dream wedding in Malta descends into chaos when a bloodthirsty shark attacks, and a sinister fisherman with ulterior motives turns the celebration into a deadly trap. Caught between the open sea and a ruthless predator, the newlyweds must fight for survival as secrets emerge and bonds of loyalty crumble. Pushed to the brink, the newlyweds must confront the cracks in their relationship to determine who will live, who will die, and who will remain married.
In our exclusive video, wedding guests are tied to a boat with a fisherman resembling Tucker from the Jai Courtney film "Dangerous Animals," who operates the levers of a shark cage lowered underwater. Inside the cage is a trapped young woman, who, despite being perfectly safe within a specially constructed structure protecting her from large sea creatures, screams in terror as a great white shark presses its nose against the cage. She is pulled out before anything can happen, but just when it seems rescue is imminent, she is plunged back into the water.
Movie «Cham» Produced by Yves, Eamon O'Rourke, Lucas Jarach, Luke Daniels, Ryan R. Johnson, and Kurt Fettke, it's one of several shark thrillers hitting theaters this year, as it seems that despite Jaws turning fifty, we're not too far from putting these great predators of the deep at the center of our aquatic horror films. 2026 has already given us two such films: the Netflix thriller Trash and Renny Harlin's Deep Water, but don't worry about the safety of your beach vacation—the sharks don't care about us, just like the movies suggest.
The film "Cham" will be released in cinemas and on VOD platforms on June 5.
