It seems eight-year-old Prince Louis has inherited his great-grandmother's love of snacks. The late Queen had a huge sweet tooth and adored chocolate, but her favorite tea treat was a little healthier, and apparently Louis eats the same thing in the car.
Prince William spoke about this during a recent speech on Heart Breakfast radio show , where he was asked if the morning commute to school was chaotic. He admitted that it could be, depending on the circumstances, and said, "Usually a lot of jam sandwiches get eaten in the car.".
Giving special thanks to his youngest son, the father of three added: "Louis leaves his fingerprints all over the car, which is a big help.".

I suspect Queen Elizabeth never indulged in jam sandwiches in the car, but she reportedly enjoyed them with afternoon tea. In the Channel 5 documentary "« Secrets of the Royal Kitchen »Former royal chef Graham Newbold claimed she was served "penny jam sandwiches"—round and crustless, not "pointy." It's an old custom, and the reason for it is rather surprising.
«"The royals never eat square sandwiches because tradition holds that anyone who serves them food with sharp edges is trying to overthrow the English throne," Graham explained.
Meanwhile, former royal chef Darren McGrady previously revealed on his YouTube channel that the Queen was served sandwiches for a penny as a child, and has since "eaten them for afternoon tea.".
They were usually filled with strawberry jam, made from berries from the Balmoral gardens. We don't know what kind of jam Prince Louis uses in his sandwiches (or what he uses to stain the Welsh family's car), but perhaps he also loves Balmoral strawberry jam. His mother, Kate, also makes her own plum jam.
Earlier this year, the princess visited Wales and learned how young volunteers at a community garden were growing plums and making jam. She apparently told them, "I'll send you my recipe so you can try it.".
Kate seems to specialize in canned goods, as she famously made chutney from her grandmother's recipe as her first Christmas gift to Queen Elizabeth. Homemade recipes could also be a bit healthier as a snack for Louis, although his love of jam sandwiches clearly keeps her and William constantly washing the car.

When you have three small children like the Welsh, clutter in the car is inevitable, and Louis developed a new habit last fall that brought a bit of chaos into the house. The young prince has taken up collecting chestnuts, and the princess admitted, "We're constantly finding chestnuts in the cupboards, in his bed—chestnuts everywhere!"«
She added that her son also put chestnuts in his toy trucks and played with them. Fortunately, the chestnut-picking season in the UK is relatively short, but Prince Louis's delight seemed to have temporarily put it on the back burner, as it does when he enjoys jam sandwiches on the way to school.
