Pelley was fired on Tuesday after a tense meeting with the program's new executive producer. «60 minutes »" Nick Bilton on Monday. Pelley's dismissal follows the firing of executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi. The dismissal of so many key producers and correspondents on the program «60 Minutes» has left many wondering if Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim, the program's three remaining correspondents, will also leave.
On Friday, Stahl, Whitaker, and Wertheim confirmed they would not leave the program. «60 Minutes» .
«"We were concerned that our return might be interpreted as an endorsement of the existing power structure. This is absolutely not the case," they wrote in a memo to staff. "That's why we're staying: we don't want 60 Minutes program »"ceased to exist.".
