Seth Meyers blasts Ted Cruz for suggesting gas prices won't affect midterm elections: "Don't you have a dad?" | Video

This week, Senator Ted Cruz said the current state of gas prices won't affect the Republican midterms, and that left Seth Meyers wondering just one thing: does Cruz have a father?.

On Wednesday evening, on his "A Closer Look" segment, the NBC host aired a clip from Cruz's CNBC appearance earlier this week. During the interview, Cruz was asked point-blank whether he believed voters would support the Iran war in the midterm elections, rather than be upset by the resulting surge in gas prices. Cruz responded, "I don't think it will significantly impact the midterm elections.".

«"You think people don't care about high gas prices? Don't you have a dad?" Myers asked. "Because I do, and he's not much of a texter, but when gas goes over $4 a gallon, he calls me like a disgruntled girlfriend.".

«"And by the way, Ted Cruz, I I know, "That you have a father because, according to Donald Trump, he helped kill Kennedy!" Myers continued. "According to Donald Trump!"»

The late-night show host quickly pointed out that this was a real accusation Trump made against Cruz in 2016. In fact, it sparked such outrage that Cruz's campaign even released a statement denying the accusation, calling Trump "out of touch with reality.".

«"Man, you read this and think a lot has changed in the last 10 years!" Myers said. "But one thing hasn't changed: people care about gas prices during elections! If you want more data on that, just ask Steve Kornacki. You don't even have to call him; just say 'Kornacki' three times and he'll show up like Beetlejuice.".
