Steven Spielberg weighs in on growing concerns about the film industry's ever-increasing use of artificial intelligence.
In the latest episode of the podcast IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson Spielberg said that while he is reserving judgment until he sees AI used in practice, the film's director« Disclosure Day» is also concerned about the possibility of AI taking someone's place in the writing group.
Spielberg seemed to believe that AI's limitations lay in its ability to detect human emotions.
«"I don't believe there's any substitute, any replacement for the soul," he said at the 1:16:12 mark. "I don't think it's an algorithm. It's 'ingenious,' if that's even a word.".

Spielberg believes artificial intelligence has a place in the film industry and can serve as a tool to facilitate certain aspects of the filmmaking process. "If AI wants to help me find locations, that's great," he said. "It'll save us all a lot of work." But the renowned director refuses to let AI dictate his work.
«"Don't tell me I don't have a suitable antagonist for this film," he said. "Don't tell me how to write dialogue for this character. Don't tell me where the camera should go. And, above all, don't tell me what the set should look like, unless artificial intelligence is just a tool in a production designer's arsenal.".
Spielberg further emphasizes the idea that AI should be viewed as a tool and nothing more.
«"Use AI as a tool, but don't consider it the final word on any creative issue," he emphasized. "That's where I draw the line.".
In a conversation with Sean Fennessy of The Ringer At the SXSW festival in March, Spielberg said he was open to using AI in "many different areas," but could not accept a world where it "replaces the creative individual.".
The film "Disclosure Day"« marks Spielberg's return to the sci-fi genre. He is known for films such as «War of the Worlds» , «Dissenting Opinion» , «"The Extra-Terrestrial"» and, paradoxically, «"Artificial intelligence"» .
After the sci-fi movie «Ready Player One» In 2018, Spielberg turned his attention to his dream project - a film adaptation of "« West Side Story"» , and then made a semi-autobiographical film «Fabelmans» .
The film "Disclosure Day"« will be released in cinemas on June 12.
