South Korea's Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival has announced a lineup of 11 films for the international competition for its 30th edition. Among the highlights is Curry Barker's acclaimed psychological horror film. «Obsession» and the film by Jane Schönbrun «"Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma", which opened the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard program.
The competition, renamed "Bucheon Selection: World - Feature Films" as part of this year's anniversary festival program update, is the festival's flagship program, determining its main prize, "Best of Bucheon." Founded in 1997 and now one of Asia's largest venues for screening horror, fantasy, and thriller films, the BIFAN festival runs from July 2 to 12 in Bucheon, west of Seoul.

The festival program included recent hits from the festival scene. From Cannes, along with Schönbrun's meta-slasher, which reimagines the 1980s summer camp subgenre through a queer lens, came Marion Le Corolier's film «Species , a body horror film screened at Midnight, about a generation of successful people whose anxieties take on a physical nature. Makoto Nagahisa's Burn screened at Sundance. Burn) , another portrait of troubled youth, and «Levitic Adrian Chiarella's film, also screened at Midnight, combines queer romance and horror through the language of Christian taboos. «Obsession , which premiered in Toronto and went on to become one of the year's biggest surprise box office successes, scoring a rare late-weekend boost, tells the story of forbidden desire spiraling into supernatural horror.
Much of the collection, which spans countries such as Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Spain, Ireland, Finland and Australia, features queer themes.
The BIFAN festival will premiere two films: a Japanese horror film by Kan Yamamoto «"Damn meme"» и «NIKO» , a Korean-Taiwanese co-production set in a reimagined future Seoul. The film stars Tiffany Yang of the K-pop group Girls' Generation. Finnish director Hanna Bergholm's film "’ Night birth »" is a folk horror film about the postpartum period, in which rising actress Sadie Haarla stars alongside Rupert Grint, and Damian McCarthy returns with the film "Hokum"« , a folk horror film set in Ireland, is a sequel «"Oddities"» (2024), BIFAN's previous hit.
The competition also includes a musical by Paul Urquijo «Night (Gaua) , based on a Basque witchcraft legend, and a Filipino animated musical by Avid Liongoren «"Zhaza Zaturna"» , adapted from the cult comic book about a gay hairdresser who turns into a superhero.
On June 9, BIFAN will hold a press conference to unveil the remainder of its 2026 program. This year's edition will run from July 2 to 12.
