In addition to the next major release—the fourth Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Tom Holland—Marvel Studios has another Spider-Man project waiting in the wings, but it faces a daunting challenge.
«"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is an animated multiverse story that tells the origin story of Peter Parker during his high school years. The first season of the Marvel animated series premiered in 2025, and a second (and third) season was soon announced. A second season of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" was originally planned for 2026, but the exact date is still unknown, and Marvel Television CEO Brad Winderbaum just explained the reason.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Winderbaum stated that the new season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man« completed »", but the release date has not yet been set for an unfortunate reason. Winderbaum mentioned that "« There's a lot coming out this year,", pointing to "Spider-Man: New Day," "Visionquest," "X-Men '97, Season 2," and "Avengers: Doomsday" in Marvel Studios' busy 2026 schedule. The executive said they «"they want to give [To the Spider-Man of your friendly neighborhood ] a good place to live and develop.".
Given complaints about superhero series fatigue and an overabundance of projects, especially with Marvel Studios, DC Studios, and Sony Pictures releasing their own competing superhero projects, it's logical that Marvel is delaying the release date of the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Years of work go into creating such series, and the right timing can make or break their success.
Marvel especially doesn't want to negatively impact the success of its own projects by releasing them too close together, so it's crucial to ensure there's enough time between each of its 2026 projects.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is created by Jeff Trammell and stars Hudson Thames as Spider-Man, Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn, and Hugh Dancy as Dr. Otto Octavius. The first season premiered on Disney+ on January 29, 2025.
When is the movie "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" likely to be released?
Looking at Marvel Studios' release schedule for the rest of 2026, it's easy to see why Winderbaum and the Marvel TV team are scrambling to find a spot for a second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
2026 already sees the release of Wonder Man, Punisher: The Final Kill, and Daredevil Reborn Season 2, not to mention Prime Video's competing Spider-Man release, Spider-Noir, coming in May. Here's what Marvel Studios has planned for the next six months:

There will be very little time between Marvel projects over the next six months, but Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has one advantage: a short release schedule. The first season, despite being 10 episodes long, was released over four weeks, with several episodes released weekly.
If Marvel decides to do the same with the second season, it would mean your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man would only need one month to make room for other Marvel releases. One option would be the period between Spider-Man: Brand New Day and VisionQuest, perhaps in September, but the problem is that this would mean two consecutive Marvel Spider-Man releases (plus a Wolverine Spider-Man game on September 15), which could lead to oversaturation of the character.
VisionQuest's full schedule hasn't been released yet, but if it ends its run at the end of November, that could give Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man plenty of time to air before Avengers: Doomsday in December.
Another potential and likely option is for Marvel Studios to delay the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man to 2027, possibly to January/February of next year, which would be similar to the release strategy for the first season. Alternatively, Marvel Studios could consider releasing all seasons of the series in one go this year to increase the interval between releases.
