Series «"Euphoria"» has officially ended. The whirlwind drama series came to an end Sunday night on HBO with the Season 3 finale, which concluded with the death of Zendaya's character, Rue, from an accidental overdose.
In a behind-the-scenes feature aired on HBO after the finale, series creator Sam Levinson said, "I felt like it was an honest ending. An honest ending is that people like Rue don't survive... I think ultimately, I wanted to tell an honest story about addiction. I also wanted to tell a story about grief and the emotional turmoil it can cause.".

In a gripping new trailer for a documentary, a New York socialite who believed he was an alien creates a cult following of attractive models.
When Rue overdoses, she dreams of Fezko, played by Angus Cloud until his death in 2023. The episode features previously unused footage of the two actors. "I wanted to tell this story for Angus and for the people who weren't given a second chance," Levinson said in the video.
Levinson also told the newspaper New York Times , That the third season marks the official conclusion of the series. "In terms of the story we wanted to tell, which is about addiction and its consequences, for me this feels like the end," he said.
He added that he'd originally planned "a different storyline for Roo's character." The news of Cloud's death influenced how he ultimately crafted the final season. "I've always been deeply concerned about the prevalence of fentanyl, and we've touched on it throughout the seasons. But after his death, I had to rethink the script, and I thought, 'You can't tell a story about drug addiction today without showing the real consequences. Most people don't get a second chance.'".
Levinson explained that the show's story is "ultimately tragic, but it's also true." "If you experiment with drugs or take them today, it's quite possible it will kill you.".
Earlier this year, Levinson said Rolling Stone , that he wanted to keep Cloud's character on the show. "Keeping Angus in the story was like, if I can't control this in life, at least I can control it in work," he explained. "The grief surrounding Angus really impacted this season. He was someone I loved deeply. And someone I fought for deeply. Look, I've struggled with addiction. I'm very knowledgeable about that. So you're always kind of prepared, but losing Angus really shook me and angered me for so many reasons.".
Zendaya previously hinted that the third season would be the last for «"Euphoria »" In April, during an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show Barrymore asked point-blank if this would be the final season, to which Zendaya replied, "I think so." She added, "The show's ending is just around the corner.".
