The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival has announced the Golden Cup competition list, which covers five categories: feature films, documentaries, animation, and short films. The festival will run from June 12 to 21.
The main competition program features 12 films from 15 countries and territories, all of which are world premieres. Among the contenders are the Indonesian film "My Last Supper" directed by Ismail Basbet; "Night of Blindness," a Turkish-German co-production by Reis Çelik; and the Moroccan work "Halima" by Yassin El Idrissi. China is represented by two films: "Atlantic Rhapsody" by Zhong Kaifeng and "The Great Skull" by Liu Xiaoyang. Also in competition are the Chinese-Hong Kong co-production "The Secret in the Box" by Frankie Tam Hong-Yuen; the Belgian work "Iluminada" by Nicolas Rincón Gillet; the Brazilian-British co-production "Louise's Desert" by Alan Minas; and the Russian work "Sons of the Sea" by Daniil Merkulov. The program features two German films: Josef Brandl's "Superbay" and Susanne Heinrich's "The Unhappy Mother," the latter of which had its world premiere at the Munich International Film Festival. Louis Godbout's Canadian film "Parking Space" concludes this section.

Thai director Sompot Chidgasornpongse on '9 Temples of Heaven,' his feature debut at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight.
The main jury of the competition is chaired by Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai. The seven-member jury also includes Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha, Chinese director Guan Hu, Kyrgyz director Aktan Arym Kubat, Mexican screenwriter, director, and producer Fernanda Valadez, Chinese actor Xin Zhilei, and Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili.
The Emerging Asian Talent section, showcasing debut and second feature films by Asian directors, features 12 films from across the continent and beyond. The Indian-German co-production Hunter's Moon, directed by Ridham Janve, competes with Sompot Chidgasornpongse's 9 Temples of Heaven, which recently debuted at Cannes, and Kazakhstani director Alibi Mukushev's No Good Thing in Sight: A Story. World premieres in the section include Ishtiyak Ahmad Zihad's Bangladeshi-German co-production The Blind Girl and the Elephant, as well as Busra Bulbul's Turkish film About Mother, Zaid Abu Hamdan's Jordanian-Saudi co-production Buma, and Nargiza Dotieva's Kyrgyz film The Lark. China is presenting four films: "Cassowary" (Zhang Hanyi), "Her First Taste" (Gong Yiwen), and "No Offense" (Liu Shichuan), as well as Mak Ting Shu's Sino-Hong Kong co-production "A Dog's Night Out." Wang Bo's "Strangers in the Mountains" is also in competition.
The Asian New Talent jury is chaired by Singaporean film director Anthony Chen, joined by Indonesian director and screenwriter Camila Andini, Chinese director and screenwriter Liu Jiayin, Kazakh director and screenwriter Farkhat Sharipov, and Taiwanese actor Wen Qi.
The documentary competition program features five world premieres. The Chinese film "Unheard Notes" by director Gu Yun is competing against the Chilean documentary "Tiger of the East" (Jorge Acevedo), the Spanish film "Benigno" (David Baute), the North Macedonian-Croatian-Slovenian co-production "Ruins" by Jelena Čemerska, and the film "Wheels of Forgotten Dreams" by directors Miloš Ljubomirović and Danilo Lazović from Serbia, Bulgaria, and Croatia.
The animation section features five feature films. The Brazilian film "Amadeo and the Hypothetical New World," co-directed by Brenda Ligia and Edu Felistok, competes with Linda Hambæk's Scandinavian co-production "Dante," Ronny Gani's Indonesian film "Garuda: Dare to Dream," Olivier Claire's French film "Lucy Lost," and "Winnipeg, Seeds of Hope," a Spanish-Chilean-Argentinian co-production by Hélio Guiroga and Benat Beitia.
The 28th SIFF is held under the auspices of the China Film Administration and is co-organized by China Media Group and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
