Some movie soundtracks remain memorable even after 49 years. The cult action comedy «Smokey and the Bandit» certainly falls into this category, and Paste Magazine I agree with this.
The publication recently ranked the iconic '70s film soundtrack at number 43 on its list of "The 50 Greatest Movie Soundtracks of All Time." The film's score, composed by country singer Jerry Reed and composer Bill Justice , was released on vinyl, cassette and 8-track by MCA Records.
The soundtrack's only single, "East Bound and Down," hit record stores on August 1, 1977. Written by Reed and Dina Kay Rose , the song had remarkable success on the charts, reaching number 2 on the US chart Billboard Hot Country. The song spent a total of 16 weeks on this chart and climbed to the same position on the Canadian chart. RPM Country Tracks, and also reached number 3 on the US chart.
