HBO Max has officially confirmed the production status of Season 3 of Pitt, along with the return of familiar doctors and nurses. The award-winning medical drama will continue its format of one extended shift in the emergency room of the Pittsburgh Trauma Center. The upcoming season has been confirmed to take place in November, which will pose significant challenges for the Pitt crew due to the cold weather and proximity to the holidays.
In April 2026, Pitt showrunner R. Scott Gemmill confirmed that at least nine characters would return for Season 3, and also announced that Dr. Samira Mohan would not be returning for upcoming episodes. Ahead of Season 3, HBO Max released a new promo video celebrating the start of production on Pitt Season 3, revealing which characters would be returning for another 15-hour shift.
The latest promo video confirms the return of 10 characters in season 3 of Pitt, including lead doctors Dr. Robbie, Dr. Al-Hashimi, Nurse Dana Evans, and Dr. Abbott. Interestingly, the list doesn't include other fan-favorite characters from season 2, such as surprise character Joy Kwon, Nurse Emma Nolan (whose return has already been confirmed), Nurse Perla, and Nurse Princess.
The third season of Pitt is expected to premiere on HBO Max in 2027.

Dr. Robbie
It's a given that Dr. Robbie will be back in Pitt's third season, especially after the intense emotions he experienced during his Independence Day weekend shift in season two.
After the end of the show's second season, the final shot shows Dr. Robbie carrying baby Jane Doe, hinting that he might adopt her to start a new life. However, Pitt showrunner R. Scott Gemmill confirmed that Robbie will not adopt Jane Doe; instead, he plans to take a break from working in the emergency room.
Dr Robbie's break meant he wouldn't be on active duty when Series 1 began, and it would be interesting to see how the head of the ED would fare back in the pre-holiday shift.
Dr. Al-Hashimi
Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi had her share of ups and downs in the second season of Pitt. After her epilepsy diagnosis was confirmed in the final two episodes of the second season, Dr. Robbie threatened to report her to hospital management due to concerns about her ability to continue practicing, which could compromise the quality of care provided to patients.
Now that her status is confirmed in Pitt Season 3, it will be interesting to see if Robbie reports her, but all indications are that he hasn't, as Al-Hashimi is still the chief of the emergency room.
With Robbie still on vacation at the start of Season 3, it will be interesting to see who else will be present, given that Al-Hashimi proposed a two-man structure at the end of Season 2.
Nurse Dana Evans
Nurse Dana Evans has been confirmed to return for the third season of Pitt, once again demonstrating her leadership skills in the emergency department. In season two, Dana protected her new charge, Emma Nolan, from patient abuse, and her maternal care for her colleagues is expected to continue in season three.
With Robbie not being on active duty when Season 3 begins, Dana's position as head nurse will be tested as everyone looks to her for leadership.
Dr. Parker Ellis
Dr. Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris) is the newest addition to the day shift of the ED, moving up from the night shift. Dr. Ellis will bring her usual assertiveness to the day shift, challenging other beloved doctors like Dr. Santos and Dr. Whitaker. As the ED's chief resident, she will likely clash with or confront Dr. Al-Hashimi, while simultaneously earning the respect of Dana Evans.
Given her history with Dr. Mel King, stemming from the interrogation that accompanied the Independence Day weekend shift, the dynamics of their relationship will be explored in Season 3, especially after the Season 2 finale confirmed that the interrogation is far from over.
Ellis's experience working the night shift gives her a different perspective, potentially allowing her to identify different methods that could improve day shift performance.
Dr. Cassie McKay
Dr. Cassie McKay will officially return as a compassionate third-year resident in the Pittsburgh Trauma Center's emergency department. In season two, McKay lost her terminal cancer patient, Roxy, and it undoubtedly left a deep mark on her.
Roxy's death forced Cassie to confront mortality and her own emotional numbness. By the end of her shift, she admitted that she sometimes feels unable to cry anymore, a gripping storyline that may be explored in more detail at the beginning of Season 3.
Dr. Frank Langdon
After being fired in the first season and returning in the second, Dr. Frank Langdon's return in Pitt's third season promises to reveal the third chapter of his drug addiction recovery, especially after the difficulties and partial reintegration he faced after his return.
Langdon must continue to navigate damaged relationships with his colleagues, especially Dr. Santos, and face the temptation to revert to old habits (especially now that Dr. Robbie is no longer the primary physician at the start of the day shift).
Dr. Trinity Santos
Dr. Trinity Santos' return in Pitt's third season is exciting, as it will be interesting to see how she develops given the few mistakes she made during her shift over the Fourth of July weekend (like being late with her schedule).

Whitaker's return in season three continues his steady upward trajectory at Pitt, as he advances further in residency and takes on even greater responsibilities on the day shift. Given the finale's insight into his personal life, perhaps his budding relationship with Amy Miller will be explored in more depth, as will his developing friendship with Dr. Santos.
Dr. Victoria Javadi
In the second season of Pitt, Dr. Victoria Javadi made a major career announcement, confirming that she wants to work in the field of emergency psychiatry.
In a June 2026 interview with Bustle, Shabazz Aziz, who plays Javadi, confirmed that her character would be involved in «"psychiatric rotation", That is, she will not work in the emergency department, but will consult with patients as needed.
«"I can say that I'm not working in the emergency room this season. I've already completed an internship in the emergency room, so I'm currently doing an internship in psychiatry.".
Dr. Javadi's new role in Pitt's third season will offer new storylines and dynamics with her colleagues, giving fans a chance to see a different side of her personality as she navigates her psychiatric diagnosis.
Dr. Jack Abbott
