Marvel just released the first trailer for season two. «X-Men '97’ , confirming that it will premiere on Disney+ on July 1st. The first season premiered in March 2024 and became one of the best X-Men adaptations of all time. Season 2 will have to live up to those high expectations, and judging by the trailer, it's up to the challenge.
What to expect from X-Men '97 season 2?
The season opens with the X-Men scattered across different time periods, desperately trying to return to the 1990s. Meanwhile, in the decade they left behind, suspicious enemies and growing intolerance toward mutants fill the vacuum left by their absence.
The main villain we'll be seeing is Apocalypse, and it looks like the season is heavily inspired by the iconic comic book storyline. «Age of Apocalypse» , one of the most beloved and brutal storylines in X-Men history.
If you are not familiar with this event, then «Age of Apocalypse» — is a landmark event in Marvel Comics from 1995 in which Apocalypse takes over North America and the X-Men exist in a completely alternate, darker timeline.
The trailer also features over thirty new and returning mutants, as well as numerous Easter eggs for longtime fans, including a hint at Weapon Plus. The entire voice cast returns, including Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Seeley-Smith, Cal Dodd, and others.
