Tom Holland says Zendaya was his 'lifeline' on the set of Spider-Man 4.
Tom Holland recently opened up about how Zendaya became his rock on the set of Spider-Man 4, helping him stay grounded despite the pressure of stepping back into the Peter Parker suit.
During his appearance on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast on Tuesday, June 2, Holland became animated while talking about working with his real-life co-star Zendaya, who also plays his on-screen love interest, MJ.
«"It's a lifeline. I can't imagine doing my job without it," he said.
The Uncharted actor then recounted an "amazing moment" they shared on the set of the latest Spider-Man film. "It only happened because of our relationship," he added.
«"We were doing a story about her, and I would never in my life say that to an actress I hadn't worked with," Holland explained, adding, "So I said, 'Do you think this scene is good?' And she said, 'No. I don't think this scene is good at all.'".
Encouraged by Zendaya's support, Holland shared his concerns with the producers and asked if they thought the scene was working. When the producers admitted it wasn't working, Holland agreed and said he and Zendaya weren't thrilled with the idea either.
The Edge of Winter actor then approached director Destin Daniel Cretton and voiced the same concerns. He praised Cretton for listening patiently and remaining calm as they shared their doubts about the scene.
«"He told the crew, 'Everyone can go home, and we're going to sit down and rewrite this scene,'" Holland said.
The scene was reshot the very next day, and Tom Holland said he was grateful for it because the final version turned out great. He attributed this to a change in his trust in Zendaya. Holland noted that he wouldn't have felt comfortable raising the issue if he were working with any other co-star.
