EDGLRD, a film and technology company founded by veteran independent filmmaker and provocateur Harmony Korine, has seen mixed success since its founding in 2023, releasing two of Korine's films, "Aggro Dr1ft" and "Baby Invasion," to generally mixed reviews.
For its third feature film, the company is finally bringing in new voices. IndieWire exclusively presents the official trailer for "Barrio Triste," EDGLRD's new project, which hits theaters next month.
EDGLRD's first film not directed by Korine, "Barrio Triste," is the work of Colombian-American photographer and videographer Stills. Stills is best known for his work with some of Latin America's biggest stars, directing music videos for artists like Bad Bunny and Rosalía. "Barrio Triste" is Stills's debut feature. Film Movement will distribute the film. The music was composed by Venezuelan experimental electronic musician Arca.

Part coming-of-age story, part found footage film, Barrio Triste is set in 1980s Colombia and follows a group of teenagers and their daily lives in Medellín. A synopsis reads: "In a poor neighborhood of 1980s Medellín, a group of disaffected teenagers steal a television reporter's camera to document their lives. Permeating the oppressive atmosphere of a desolate landscape with disarming reflections on dreams and death, their understanding of reality and hope begins to unravel as reports of mysterious lights falling from the sky coincide with temporal and spatial distortions.".
Barrio Triste premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival and then at the Toronto International Film Festival that same year, where it received mixed reviews from critics. In his review, IndieWire critic Ryan Lattanzio wrote that the film "still feels more like a video installation than a film that would engage in a theater. It's the kind of project—here, a quasi-found-footage horror film set in 1980s Medellin, a city terrorized by crime and possibly alien creatures—that could be shown backstage at a museum, where you'd peek in for a few minutes before moving on to another room.".
