On May 29, Taylor Swift fans spotted billboards in Chicago, London, and Dallas featuring the signature blue sky background and the letters "TS"—the initials shared by both Taylor Swift and Toy Story. The background featured 13 white clouds—a number long associated with Swift.
Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton addressed the rumors during an interview at Pixar headquarters. Stanton, along with co-director McKenna Harris and producer Lindsay Collins, were asked about fan speculation linking Taylor Swift to the film.
«"It surprised us. What an incredible honor," Stanton said of the online speculation sparked by Swift's website countdown and Toy Story-esque imagery.
Collins added: "That would be absolutely amazing.".
Stanton then debunked one of the most common theories, saying Swift would not perform the film's final song.
«"The sad truth is that last week we were watching a movie being mixed and it wasn't a Taylor Swift song that ended up on the score," he said.
Notably, while Stanton specifically addressed the theory that Swift would perform the film's final song, he did not comment on broader speculation about a possible collaboration.
A few days later, the film company released a video on Instagram directly linking the singer to the fifth installment of the franchise.
